It's for stuff that they own. I believe DSG owns some of the smaller/cheap brand golf companies.

man I hate this sooooooo much. I get golfsmith coupons everyday and some of them I think I could use. like presidents weekend sale, they gave me a 50 dollars off a purchase of 200 or more. I wanted to get some new shoes and thought I could save 25%. look at the small print and see I can't use it for anything but snake eyes basically. their brand of course.

golf is a lot like life. the more you enjoy it, the better off you are. a3_biggrin.gif

I have heard that Dick's has $20 of a purchase or $100 or more, but I can't find the coupon anywhere.  Does anyone know where I can find this, or anyone have one that they are not going to use?

I've replaced eveything in my bag this winter, including my bag, so I've done alot of shopping and looking for killer deals.

Dicks pretty much excludes anything golf other than Noodle, Acuity or Slazenger (the latter 2 of which they own) on their coupons.

Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith tend to only exclude brand new offerings from all the big golf companies.  Usually last year's models will work with a coupon.

Hope that helps.

I even tried to use a coupon at Dicks for a Columbia jacket I bought my wife.......they sent me an internet only coupon that you had to use during the lunch hour.  I went through the whole online shopping cart experience and no dice when it came to applying the coupon (as Columbia brand was exlcuded as well).  It's kind of a sham.

Sign up for their "Scorecard" and they will come in the mail.  They send out stuff routinely.  Probably at least once a month or so.  But as most mentioned, they exclude just about everything golf related.

I am signed up with their "Scorecard" program, and never got anything in the mail with coupons.  Come to think of it, I haven't recieved anything from them since last fall or so.  Does anyone have one that they don't want, or don't plan to use?

I use DSG for most of my golf/athletic purchases and I get a catalog from them with coupons about every month. For the catalog coupons, if you use them in store the employees never check them against your purchase. Until you mentioned it, I didn't even notice the products excluded on the backside of the coupon. Online the computer validates the coupon code against the purchase, but in store I think it's up to the cashier to do it, and they hardly pay attention. I've accidentally used 10% off golf clothing coupons on golf balls before (didn't realize that I'd given the wrong coupon until I saw the receipt in the parking lot), so I think that the cash register does whatever the employee tells it to. They did clear the rewards points on everyone's accounts going into this year, though, so it's possible they also dropped inactive members. That could explain why the catalog isn't coming. (IIRC, you have to make a purchase every 3 months or something like that to keep getting the catalog.) You can manage your account at http://mydicksportinggoods.com. Log in and make sure your account is active and address is accurate. If you're not set up on there, I'd get setup, makes it easy to check your rewards points so you know when you're getting your next $10 coupon(s).
I don't know about a $20 off for >$100. I have seen $10 off for >$50 in the recent catalog, though.

The coupons I've had (and used) typically only blacklisted a few golf products: usually Ping (who don't allow any discounts of any kind on any products of theirs afaik), Titleist golf balls, and a couple other companies.  They definitely did not broadly blacklist golf companies, and I have purchased Bridgestone golf balls with one.  These were coupons related to their loyalty card, both discounts and bonus "points."

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
