Question about forged v. cast.....

Anyone else prefer cast clubs because of their durability?  I had a set of forged irons last year, and they just got wayyy to beat up for my liking.  There is a difference in feel, but it doesn't really affect my game.

I have a set of forged blades that are 30+ years old and a set of cast cavity backs that are 19 years old. Both have held up well and I still play both.

(please don't tell anyone else on here, but I use iron covers)

I do know what you are saying--forged is a bit softer and dings a little easier, but over a couple years there won't be that much difference.

I only have two sets of irons. If I compare them right now, they're in pretty much identical direction.

I've played more rounds with the Titleist AP2s and they're in better condition than my old Wilson Ultras.

So my answer is no. Forged irons get dings easier, but to me it's worth it.

I disagree.  The forged irons that I playedfor one season were in worse shape than my cast irons that I've had for almost a decade..

Yet my forged AP-2's are into their 3rd season and look nearly as good as they did new.  And believe me, I don't baby them (they've been hit from gravel, hardpan, and even cart paths on occasion), nor do they ever see a head cover, and I play 70+ rounds a year.  I clean them after every shot, but otherwise I don't do much but play with them.

I guess it depends on the club.  The forged irons that I had were the Snake Eyes 685x.  They dinged up so easy, the way the faces were looking after one season there is no way they would have lasted more than 2 seasons....

I just picked up a bag - Quiet Organizer 12 - that are great for forged clubs! They keep them from banging around, however it is a cart bag.

it is a matter of taking care of your clubs. if you clean them after every round, they will last a long time. obviously.

I think it all depends on how you take care of them.  Yes forged clubs are softer, but if properly taken care of they can stay looking good for a very long time.  Conversly, cast clubs can look like crap if not taken care of also.

Go for the PCs. They get a nice even denting and patina before the grips even need to be changed out.
