Just wondering why you don't play a 60 degree super spin kind of wedge or even just a regular lob wedge? I don't know where I would be without 1

I agree, an 8 handicap probably has the skills needed to take advantage of a 58-60 degree wedge in the short game. It might be time to check out some of the newer 3 woods if you want to maximize distance with your 3wood. It is a great club but newere models are probably longer.

Just wondering why it matters.....

Golf is a game of personal preference and feel. If you like the Callaway irons- they are the perfect clubs. If you like the Titleist driver- it is the perfect driver and you should not change a thing.

I personally think I have the perfect bag, but to someone else the Sonartec 5 wood is a horrible choice, as are the Mizuno irons. If I hit Walmart Specials great and played to a scratch with them- I would rate my bag perfect, and would not care a lick what anyone thought about my club selection.

They are very responsive and have very good spin around the greens, I personally like them better than the cleveland's or the titleist's. In a full swing point of view, I think they go a touch farther than the competitors.

A 58/60 degree lob wedge IS a great tool. But, if you have the feel and can control your backswing, you can accomplish a lot by opening up a 54 degree wedge and taking a smooth swing on it. I can open up my 54 and hit a lot of shots around the greens, tight lies or out of the rough. In fact, for the short time I've been playing, hitting lob shots is one of my strengths, its also one of my favorite shots in the game, if not my favorite. If you analyze your strenghs and weaknesses and you decide that a gap wedge is more beneficial to you than a lob wedge, so be it, it really just depends on what you'll find yourself using most. Golf is complex and thats what I love about it.

I'm not arguing which brand is better. Yes its personal preference, but if I was putting with my PW during a round wouldn't you suggest that I play with a putter? (which I do do during

pratice to work on my stroke) I think that it does matter, and I am only trying to give my perspective to a topic posted on this forum. Don’t get me wrong I am not bashing his choice of setup/brand by any means, but he is asking the question “I just wanted to take a poll on how good my bags contents were!!!” I think that the poll is open to more than just brand labels. At an 8 and a 5.4 handicap skill level is not an issue, and by now our clubs pretty much set the way we like them. It was a question to why he chooses not to play a wedge with a lot of spin, because I feel that he is only hindering his recovery ability. Maybe his 8 handicap could be a 4 handy with a good lob wedge? If most scoring is done within 100 yards shouldn’t >100 yards get some attention? I have always played a lob wedge in my setup: clevelands, vokeys (non Spin Milled), but only after I changed to Spin Milled and MD grooves have I ever had the running two hop check before. How many times have you short sided yourself on a green in the rough pin going down hill, or left yourself a 40-50 yard short to the pin with the wind to your back? I asked him this question because these are the types of situations that can equal boogie or worse real quick. I know that I’d hate to tackle these situations with just a 56 degree wedge in my hand. Plus the grinds on a 60 degree wedge like an M grind (w/ various degrees of bounce) is designed for various recovery shots. I mean you can hit a flop shot with a 9 iron, but would you when that's what a lob wedge is for?

Not sure what the logic is in having two hybrids separated by only two degrees of loft. Also, is there much of a distance gap between your 21-degree hybrid and your 4-iron? Seems like you could do some collapsing here and easily add another wedge.

    • Flying into ATL on Sept 11 (Thu), early, leaving Sept 15 (Mon), late. Dates are fixed. Trying to hit the best RTJ Trail stops without spending half the trip in the car.   Plan: Thu: Grand National (Lake or Links) Fri: GN AM, then drive to Capitol Hill, play Senator Sat: Capitol Hill – Judge Sun: Ross Bridge Mon: Oxmoor Ridge early, drive to ATL   Thinking about squeezing in Cambrian Ridge after Capitol Hill—worth it or too much? Would love any feedback or tips from those who’ve done it.
    • Day 73 (13 Jul 25) (note: forgot to post the "day" for the past few days, up to day 73) - Easy day in the backyard, with time on the 50deg wedge and the mat (simulating tight lies around the green) working on low spinners.  Love using this mat as it is small and portable but also lends to being a type of alignment rod to get a proper setup.  Finished up with a few swings with the 54.
    • Congrats on the new leg of your journey - the challenge of learning something new while dealing with Parkinson’s is totally awesome.
    • Played several holes today with my Buddy's left haded clubs.  I was going to order just woods, but after playing again today and hitting the irons well, I will be ordering a complet set of Left handed Clubs.    They are Callaway Edge, Regular flex.  I am excited !  Will let you know after I try them and let you know how well they performed.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • Depends in part on what lie the greens crew left me. If it's first cut of rough or fairway and clear shot to cup, it's an 8i chip and run. If it's shaggy, or I have to go over ridge or bunker, it's a cut shot with a 58* LW.
