That's 100% true. They are very very forgiving.

I just bought new irons and was considering the X-24s, Wilson Staff Ci9s and the TM R9s.  I quickly eliminated the Callaways as they just don't sit well for me (thick top line, and the the Callaway irons always seem to have such a long head), plus the wear issue.  So it came down to the Staffs and the TMs.  Ultimately went with the TMs as they are really nice at setup, just the right amount of offset and head size (for me), but the Wilsons are super nice too.  Haven't hit them on course yet, but they are said to be crazy forgiving and long, but still workable.  I'm about a 12 hdcp, so they just suited my game the best of the three.

Well my uncle just purchased the wilsons and he loves them. The reason i am looking at the callaways is because other then the adams they are the leader in forgiveness. That is what i look for in my irons it does make it a liitle harder to work the ball but honestly i can't work the ball very well anyways. My 08 callaway big bertha set has elevated my game and i just read up on the diablo edges and they are pretty much big berthas with more forgivness which is crazy to think of. But i am really thinking of just going to my local pro shop and just hitting different irons and seeing which ones give me the best performance i could be shocked of the results.

That's probably best, as your game might have improved enough where you'd see better results with Game Improvement irons rather than SGI.  I like my Diablo Edges alot, but I'm at best a 27 handicap now, and my swing isn't consistent so the SGI's bail me out of alot of mishits.

I will say that having played the X-12's with graphite shafts I'm having a tough time getting used to the wider soles and heavier feel of the Edges.  If I was closer to a 20, I'd probably have bought the Mizuno JPX-800's, or spent more time testing the Callaway RAZR X or Ping G15's.  I believe the RAZR X's are in between the X-24's and Diablo Edges in terms of forgiveness, but don't have as wide a sole, so you might want to check them out as well.

Have you considered the Ping g15's?  Every time I demo them it's nothing but long and straight.

No i haven't but i really think i may try a bunch of irons and just pick the ones that feel the best. My game has gotten better since i have purchased my irons so who knows i may still lean towards callaway's or maybe pings,tm,mizuno's, may be the choice. I need to give them all a wack.

Good luck with your decision.  I just picked up the X-24's.  I've only hit them on the range for maybe half a bucket, but I'm taking them out for a couple of rounds this weekend.  Trial by fire. :)

I will say, as has been said, the finish shows wear immediately.  Kind of a good thing/bad thing.  I don't really like the fact that it wears so quickly, but you CERTAINLY know where you are hitting the ball on the face of the club!

Played two rounds with them this weekend and I really do like them.  They show wear, no question about it, but not horribly.  They felt great and definitely helped with slight mishits.  Overall, I'm very happy with them.

I believe if the performance is there you can get over the wear. I'm sure it stinks to spend that much on irons that wear quickly but if they feel great who cares about the rest.I think i am going to get a 6 iron and demo it with the diablo edge and try them this fri on the course. I did hit them last year and liked the weight and fell of the x24 hots better.Thank you for the post i always like opinions from other golfers.

I have had my X-24's for about 2 months now and they really look well worn. Predictably on the soles and face. The good news is that it in no way affects play and my wear marks on the face indicate some pretty consistent "sweet spot" hits. But the bad news is that this cannot possibly be good for the value.

Callaway, IMHO, could definitely have done a better job with this finish. Those irons looked SO beautiful out of the box but it sure didn't take long for them to look worn.
