Not sure if this article has been posted but i just figured i would show it to ya'll...its a pretty good read with alot of valid points...the one that hit home for me the most was when he said that us amateurs have to lower our expectations

That was one of the best "10 rule" by a pro that i've read.  The shorter driver shaft and turning the hip on the backswing points were fantastic.

I love his tip on if you wake up in the morning and the ball is fading, play with a fade instead of fighting it the whole round

Sam Snead said it also.  He said  something to the effect that in his warm up if he was fading or drawing the ball he just adjusted his aim and not his swing.  Probably good advice to not try swing changes on the course.

Sounds like solid advice to me.  Only thing I'm not sure about is "tee off like you just made bogey."  When I'm frustrated with myself, it does NOT have a positive effect on my swing.  I hit my best shots when my thoughts are composed and I'm fully focused on the matter at hand.

That is true.  I think this tip is a good one but only depending on the individual.  Some people I know play amazing when they are upset and others continue to blow up when angry.

1. You Probably Need More Loft

Absolutely, too many high handicappers, junior, women and elder players use drivers with too low loft.

2. Utilize Your Best Physical Trait

Not something I've thought too much about, but we all use our body. If you got big forearms, you will be able to swing faster.

3. Try A Shorter Shaft

Agree again, longer shafts is no guarantee for hitting it longer. You might also appreciate better accuracy instead of the 5-10 extra yards.

4. Learn To Hit A Draw

A draw and fade with similar launch conditions will fly the same distance, but of course I agree with him that a lot of the amateur players out there would benefit from swinging in-out instead of out-in. It helped getting rid of my slice.

5. Accept Days When You Don't Have It

Don't think too many have trouble with this. We all know it's a difficult game and that our game will be on one day and off the next.

6. Tee Off Like You Just Made Bogey

Being a bit fired up can go both ways. Trying to crush a drive can turn out perfect, but might also cause a really bad shot. I usually play better after a streak of bad shots after which I've almost given up scoring well that round and just not cared all that much. Played one of my best rounds after opening with a triple on the second hole.

7. If You're Small, Hit More Balls

Technique trumps strength in my opinion, and is something you develop by hitting balls. At least get your technique as good as possible before seeking the gym to gain distance. Working out probably wouldn't hurt anyone, but I don't think it would help your game as much as working on your swing would. Of course, minigunning balls at the range is no guarantee for making you better.

8. Flare Out Your Front Foot

I already flare out my right foot, and my left, but maybe not 45º normally. That hips generate power, and faster hips generate more power is something I can agree on. It can at the same time cause other issues, so be careful.

9. Beware: Rust Forms Fast

Swinging a little every day will probably keep your swing better in place.

10. Turn Your Hips Back, Too

Hips must turn, absolutely, don't restrict them or try to keep the same flex in the back knee. They are a big power source. Turning as far as you phyiscally is able to might not be the best advice, since you can over-rotate. Bubba got a big turn and hip swing, so I can see why he feels this way.

All in all pretty good tips from Bubba.

Well said.

I think I read somewhere that BW has ADD.  So, in his case, perhaps anger helps him focus more which has a positive effect on his performance.  In contrast, the only thing anger gives me is a triple-digit scorecard and more anger.

1. You Probably Need More Loft - True, get in touch with your feminine side. Drop the macho act!

2. Utilize Your Best Physical Trait - Good one and so true when you analyse it.

3. Try A Shorter Shaft - Who knows if you're an inch shorter!!!!

4. Learn To Hit A Draw - Having played with both directions, think I'll go with the adage that "you can talk to a slice." Draws are great until they become snappers!!!
5. Accept Days When You Don't Have It - After a heavy night out, when my hands are shaking over a short put, I do accept these days!
6. Tee Off Like You Just Made Bogey - Many years ago after making a bogey on a short par 4 at Gleneagles I followed this and probably ripped the drive of my life, kept it going as well for the rest of the round - then had to accept many days when I didn't have it!!
7. If You're Small, Hit More Balls - Makes sense, just have to guard against lethargy.
8. Flare Out Your Front Foot - Good little turbo boost.
9. Beware: Rust Forms Fast - Yeah, many a time had to get the WD40 out to loosen off. Sometimes a good idea when your form drops drastically to put the clubs away for a time, but any period of inactivity must surely mean you'll lose some elasticity in your body.

10. Turn Your Hips Back, Too - Suppose this also fits in with we are all built differently, so if it's physically possible without losing any resistance then it's all good!

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
