How Much for a Custom Scotty Cameron?

I was thinking about buying a used Newport series putter and then sending it in to have it customized, any ideas on how much this will cost me. Cost of a good used Newport and the cost of the customization?

Depends on which series Newport you are talking about and the condition. Newport is the model, not the series. The series would be Stainless, Style, or Select, for example. Select gets the most demand so a decent used one will run you close to $200. The other 2 can be obtained for under $175 or even close to $100 depending on the condition.

As far as the Custom Shop goes, a full restoration (replace original grip, shaft, headcover, refinish and repaint (using the colors of your choice) is $145 with about $20-$25 for shipping, handling and insurance.

Custom work without restoration varies depending on the work done, but you can get an upgraded grip and headcover and new custom paint job for $109 before shipping and handling.

Custom stamping and sightlines regardless of service is $30 for the first stamp/sightline and $10 thereafter.

I don't have a Scotty but the PutterLounge.com seems to do a lot of work on them. This type of restoration may be slightly cheaper but I believe it voids all warranty with Cameron and they will not touch it after you have modified it. It's an option but may not be right for everyone...

Have you gone to Scotty's website?   All the customization options are well presented there along with costs.

I have to say, If I was wanting to get a fully customized putter I wouldn't go Scotty. You can get much more customization for much less money.

It would be much more helpful if you had the link to the used putter, or had atleast a price or specific model. To be honest it might be more worth your while if you must have a scotty, to just buy a new one. Scotty cameron customization isn't cheap and a used putter is only going to need more done to it to make it look new.

I personally like the look of Scotty Studio Select Newports, but what other kinds are there?

Smaller companies, mostly. I've never bought from them but I  hear good things about Byron Morgan, Sunset Beach, and Edel.

The advantage of the smaller companies is that you can have more input and flexibility in the design and have a truly custom putter.

If I wanted a Scotty, I think I'd stick with the Scotty custom shop. I have toyed with the same idea as the OP, but haven't bit the bullet and wound up with the extra coin. The Scotty website is really good in that you can plug in what you want done and get a price. The basic restoration of $145 includes some options and makes some others a bit cheaper, so you save a bit on some of the custom work. If you can get a nice used Scotty under $150, you might save some that way, but much over that for the used club and you are probably just as well off to order a new one from the custom shop though a dealer--i don't know if you can order a new one directly. One possible advantage of going used is that you could game the putter for a while to be sure the basic design works for you. If you like it, then you can deal directly with the Scotty Custom shop, and if you don't you can probably get most of your money back by reselling before spending the money on the custom work.

Whether you go new Scotty, used Scotty, or one of the other small companies, expect to spend at least $300-500 on this project, and while you may come up with exactly what you want, don't expect to get more than about 50% if you want to sell it--unless you find a buyer who wants exactly what you did.
