Played with my daughter today and we are on the third hole, par 5 dog leg to the left. We are playing behind a group of five young guys. Waited at the tee box for them to clear the fairway and hit a great drive over the trees on the left, best shot I have ever made on that hole. Daughter crushes her drive and is 10 yards behind me.

We get to our balls and the group ahead waves us thru. Daughter hits a great 3 wood, it hits just before the green and rolls just off the back left. I was so proud of her to hit this 200 yard shot with 5 guys standing beside the green waiting.

Then it was my turn. I was so nervous I could hardly stand still. I had 195 to the pin so I hit my 3 hybrid. I was just hoping to make good contact and not look like a fool.

I hit a great shot to just off the left edge of the green. We get up to the green and the guys are waiting. Daughter hits a great chip and 2 putts for par. Very proud of her.

I make a great putt from off the green, about 30 fee and the ball just tracks right in the hole, for an EAGLE.

What a great feeling !!!

I'm still waiting for my first but have had two very close calls this year already, both times were par 5's, reached greenside in 2, one chip lipped out and rolled a foot past and the other time it was tracking right at the hole and came up 3 inches short. But don't get me wrong, I'll take tap in birdies all day!

To the OP: congrats.  I have yet to record a legitimate eagle as far as I can remember.  I took a mulligan in a practice round last year and drove a green on a par 4 and ended up eagling it, but nothing legit.  Can't wait for my first one.

The closest I've been to a legit eagle was when I put my 2nd shot on the front edge of a Par 5 green.  I chipped to the back pin location and it hit the flag stick and stopped a couple inches from the cup.

Not sure what you mean ?

Don't have a video, but the 5 young guys standing around the green witnessed it, and congratulated me.

I was playing with my middle daughter, she is 13 and will be in 9th grade next year. Very proud of both my golfing daughters.

Video or shens (shenanigans) is like saying "pics or it didn't happen."  It's just an internet joke (meme).  Enjoy that eagle... until the next round :)

She is a normal 13 year old, but she is very athletic. Her 15 year old sister can hit her driver around 230.

They can both out drive me on most holes ...

I had to move up to the white tees this year so I can have a chance ...

I think I am going to start making them play from the white tees very soon

Im sure your daughters embarrass groups of guys on the course all the time. I wish I had started younger too bad my father and I didnt start golfing till I was 21 and after about 2 weeks of playing I was allready better than him haha. Didnt get much instruction out of him and now Im the one feeding him tips (and I can tell he hates it)...

Gratz on the Eagle as well. Ive had 3 chances on Par 5's this year one was I got on the green in 2 and 2 putt'd the other was fringe in 2 and skulled my chip. Im looking for that first ever eagle I get so excited when I get a chance at one that I just freeze up mentally. I cant imagine going for it with a  crowd GJ.

+1.  When I read the OP's post and came across that sentence, I thought, "Dayam!"

When my youngest son was 8, I took him golfing and he hit my driver (back then I had a Titleist 983K 9.5* with a YS-6 stiff shaft) 200 yards.  I almost fainted and, of course, got all kinds of ribbing from my playing partners/friends.  You know the, "Now we know who has all the golf talent in your family"; "He must get his golf skills from his mother's side", "You should let him play instead of you because he has a better chance of winning money from us than you do."  Unfortunately, he only played a few times after that and decided he didn't want to play anymore--he played year-round travel baseball at the time, so golf on top of that was too much for him.

Fast forward to today; he's now 14, got burned out on baseball--his mother (my ex) pushed and pushed him to play which I warned her about.  About two years ago, he just quit baseball.  He said he wasn't having fun anymore.  Recently, he decided he wanted to play golf again.  He said this time, he's fully committed to playing because he has both the desire and time to do so.  At that point, I bought him a used Cobra driver for $50 and a good friend of mine (one of my buds that was ribbing me per the above) gave him a complete set of equipment.  I'm talking TM fairway wood, TM rescue, Nike irons, Cleveland sw, TM putter and cart bag.  A few weeks ago, I took him out to a course just to let him get acclimated--since he hasn't hit a golf ball in years.  I figure I'd just let him hack around for a bit and see how it goes from there.  Well, on the very first hole, he pulls out his $50 driver and hits his drive 250 down the center of fairway.  With that, I signed him up for lessons with my current instructor.

I had two eagle opportunities yesterday.  Had a 12 footer on one and 6 footer on the other.  Had to settle for two birdies.  Oh well, tomorrow is a new day.

Eagles kick butt! Congrats.

I had two today! First was on a driveable par-4.Knocked my drive to 20', made the putt. Second was on a par 5. Stuck my approach to 3' and made that putt.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
