A friend and I drove 3-1/2 hours south and back today so we could get below the snow bands and play golf. It turned out to be a fantastic day, clear blue skies, temp in the low 50's, no wind, and my game came back pretty well. This is a pretty tough course and has bermuda greens, which I putt on about twice a year. Turned out we met up with a couple of locals after 6 holes and played the rest of the way around with them. They were very enjoyable to play with. Nice day and worth the drive.

After unseasonably warm and dry weather through November, December and the early part of January, West Virginia is in a deep freeze. It's been almost three weeks since I've hit a full shot and it's driving me crazy. Lately I've taken to practicing chipping & pitching in the yard when I'm out with my dogs. I get the practice and the dogs get to chase the balls all over. My neighbors think I'm completely nuts, but I have to say chipping from frozen ground forces you to do it right so it should be good practice.

As I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread I keep my sanity in the winter by reading golf books. I'm currently reading "Two Years in St. Andrews" by George Peper which I absolutely love and hope it never ends and I wanted to share with you winter golfers an excerpt from the chapter I was reading today..
"Indeed, to walk a brisk 18 holes in winter with three good friends, the wind lashing at your cheeks, the turf crunching beneath your feet, is to know a noble sort of joy."
Makes me miss my old golf pals of my pre-married days, we used to golf all winter no matter the conditions. The beer was always cold in our golf bags!

You know what happens when you wash your car . . . it rains.

Hasn't rained in California much all winter, but has been very cold so no golf for me, now it warms up . . . great!

Have a corporate 'thank you' golf outing on Wednesday in Carmel, great course, then they take us to the ATT on Thursday . . . can't wait!

Weather forecast: Pouring rain on Wednesday, showers on Thursday.

That's life. Will just put on rain gear, carry an umbrella and let it fly off the tee. I believe there are no umbrellas allowed at golf events, is that right anyone know?

I live in Ohio and pretty much between December and February you can't play, but I will work out all winter and go hit balls in the net at my local course. I also have a golf store about 20 minutes away that has a simulator and you can go there and pay to be in a league...its actually pretty fun. The store is called golf galaxy.
