Hi everyone,

I have posted a video of my golf swing below (sorry about poor quality). I was wondering if people could comment on it and offer advice where I can improve it.

I play off 28, am fairly good with short irons but struggle with Woods and longer irons. I pull or hook these a lot and my good shot is often a draw even with short irons.

If anyone has any swing tips or drills that will help me improve please post them below.

Many Thanks

The two most prominent things I saw in the video that you could work on is tempo and balance.  Your swing has little tempo to it in my opinion; there is that 1...2... drill that allows you to time your swing properly with 1 at the top of the swing and 2 as you hit the ball.  As you take practice swings just say it to yourself in each stage.  Now for balance, try putting your feet together and take practice swings, the key to this is to not fall over after the follow through.  This helps the head stay fairly steady which will align most of the body to stay well balanced throughout the swing.

Ok thanks for that advice.

In terms of pulling and hooking the ball does anybody have an idea of why I am doing that? Are my hands to active at impact?

You're rolling your wrists and the clubhead is way inside the hands. That's throwing everything else off and you're having to make all kinds of compensations. Keep the hands in, and feel like the clubhead is out. See the difference?

Hi, I am returning from a knee injury and struggling to get the consistency in my swing! I usually hit a draw with a good shot or a bad shot a duck hook low and left or a push to the right which doesn't draw! I usually hit driver about 240-250! 7 iron 145-155! Has anyone get any suggestions of where to improve the swing? Many Thanks Tim

Tim, my recommendations are to post outside of this thread (one post in a Masters prediction contest hardly counts). Make some friends. People want to help out, but they like to get to know you and see you participating elsewhere too.

Thanks.

I'd like to see the lower body movement get more dynamic. Good video for you to check out. Turn both those feet out and let the left knee gain in flex as the right lessens in flex.

Also your grip may be a little plamy in the left hand.

Hi I am currently struggling with injury so have been working on my short game and wondered if anyone can help with my putting stroke. I have posted videos from 3 different angles. What are peoples thoughts and areas I can improve it?

Kind Regards

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
    • Day 2, 12/31/25.  Similar to yesterday (rainy, no surprise), I hit primarily 6-iron full swings with the same focus;  I also hit some chips (about 1/8 swing) with the 54.  About two dozen full swings and an equal number of short shots.  All of this was indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls.
