Hey Guys,

Does anyone else throw on band-aids or tape up the fingers/thumbs before they even tee off?

Early in the season, or when I'm hitting a lot of balls at the driving range, I tend to get blisters in the same 2-3 spots (especially on the non-glove hand).  Gets annoying when you're out on the greens so I started just putting them on before I even head out to make it easier.

Just curious if anyone else runs into the same thing or keeps the box of band-aids close by the golf bag.  Any other band-aid guys out there?

Yes, after awhile I'll place some tape on my index finger of my non glove hand just below the knuckle.

It helps keep my focused on shot and not the finger

Never in 30+ years of playing have I ever had a blister from swinging a club.  I don't wear a glove on either hand. I do keep bandaids in my bag though, just for any possible situation which might pop up.  I have had a blister on my heel once or twice from wearing new shoes and trying to walk too far in them before they are broken in.  I more often have to give one to a playing companion for a blister or other small injury.

I've also gotten the occasional small nick or cut from having to make swings from places not usually recommended (bushes, trees, etc.).

Sometimes when I haven't played in a while and I don't have calluses my hands start to hurt a bit so I'll tape them, but I don't really get blisters.

I get a ton of blisters, I think I'm just going to buy another glove for my other hand. I play baseball and pitch and my non-glove hand is my throwing hand, so I can't really risk blisters.

I don't get blisters, but I have one finger,( I broke the tip twice playing baseball), which is not shaped properly it will dry out and crack or get callouses on it which crack. It may seem counter intuitive but making sure you put some hand lotion on before you practice or play may help. Obviously pick a lotion which is absorbed well and doesn't leave your hands sticky. I also use a bit of cloth tape if needed or as a preventative if playing and practicing a lot.

I cut my right pointer finger at work a few weeks ago. Went out the next day with a bandaid on that finger. Played one of my best rounds of the season. It was a cut where i couldnt really bend that finger much. Weird.

I keep a box of Band-Aid Tough Strips and a roll of medical tape in my bag and they work great. The tough strips are strong enough that they hold well without the need to use the tape, but I keep it in there just in case.

Other useful items in my bag include: protein bars, tissues, sun block, advil, over the counter allergy medicine, and a jump drive (for my golf lessons so I can take swing videos home with me).

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
