Wouldn't it be nice to see that headline in Mondays paper?

If no one can challange Tiger, the next best thing is someone taking down Phil.

John Mallinger is a rookie, never won, even on the Nationwide.
Was the medalist in the 2006 first round Q-school qualifier at San Juan Oaks, CA shooting 65 65 the last two days. Then finished high in round two and at the finals to gain his card.

Only 27, from Escondido, CA.

But the big deal for me is, I've been pulling for him ever since that 1st round qualifier which I attended, I've been telling everyone, "Mallinger is a guy to watch, then followed him at the finals, and it's been a big disappointment so far this season only finishing in the money once . . . but now he's hit the big time and is in the news. Not a long hitter but fairly accurate which has helped big time this week with all the wind, have to hit the fairway.

He's going to get a big fat check this week, FedEx points, and he's on his way!

It's not realistic to think that he can outlast Philly Mick or even Sutherland, so 3rd place would be a big deal. Still, we know how Phil can be on final rounds, so just hang in there John, don't make any bogeys, grab a few birdies who knows, you may be the winner.

And if he doesn't win then I want Sutherland to win because he plays G5's the irons I'm playing.

I attended Thursday's ATT and Pebble was WINDY and tough, Spyglass not so bad and Poppy pretty tame. If the wind blows tomorrow at Pebble it's going to be very dicy for everyone, one bad swing can cost the tournament. Look how Furyk blew up on the backside, found the beach.

I'd rather see Phil win than any of these other guys. Phil's #6 in the world - and people know it. The next best thing would be some competition at the top, not further separation between TW and the others.

I agree, and I'd like to see Phil get the US Open monkey off his back.

I personally agree.

Even though I am not Phil's greatest fan, I still would like to see him at his best so he can be another source of challenge for the best golfer in the world!

Honestly I think its his attitude, the way trumbles around the course with that idiot smile on his face. And his ignorance towards making stupid mistakes which cost him golf tournaments. He should have 5 + majors and 50 wins by now.

That said, I've always been a Mickelson fan. Its always exciting to watch him swing as hard as he can and go for every shot. I would rather see him win over some no name player any day.

    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.
