Well it's been the Srixon AD-403, 10.5, stiff for 2+ years. But now that we're in 2008 and it's no longer conforming, I've an excuse to get to the club fitters and pick up a new driver I really like the Cleveland Hi-Bore hybrid, so I'm going to start my testing with the XL-Tour and take it from there.

Lost Ball carries a Biggest Big Bertha and enjoys it. I get good pop and solid accuracy.
Golf is so popular simply because it is the best game in the world at which to be bad.

Well I'm going to be alittle different this year and carry 2 different drivers and pull my 3 wood. I have an Infinity 440 propulsion 9* stiff wishon shaft that I hit dead straight with alot of roll but lower trajectory less carry. I plan to use this on par fours 350 to 450 with nothing in front of you dead straight to a target yardage for my second shot to the green no stress not trying to kill the shot just position for my approach. Driver #2 is a Geek Dot Com This 12* stiff wishon shaft little or no spin to carry 240 to 260 on holes that require alot of air time. I'm sure some people will think I'm nuts to remove my 3 wood but I did an evaluation of how many times per round I use my 3 wood as compaired to my 16* cleveland utility(which I move an average of 230 to 245) and know where it's going to justify this move. Pluss this the beauty of playing golf, do something different to spice things up(why not?) Biggest thing is I have a fellow make these clubs for to my spec's, good to do this, not as much money....bwgolfer

Right now I have been using the nike SUMO, and it is a very deep driver when hit in the center. But on off center hits it does not have the forgiveness of other drivers like the TM's. So far I have been satisfied

I love my Callaway FT-i (11 degree, Stock Speeder). It really does take the slice out.

I also dabble with a Nike Sasquatch (10.5 - Stock Diamana) and I just impulse bought a Titleist 907D1 (9.5 - Proforce V2 high launch), it was a bargin.

In the past I always used knock offs. This past winter, a friend of mine (avid ebayer) picked up a Callaway ERC Fusion for me. I've hit it a few times at the local golf dome. Can not wait for winter to be over so I can play it.

Currently using a Cleveland HiBore 9.5 driver with a stock V2 shaft. Results are decent and might reshaft because of a sometimes vicious duck-hook. Not a bad value and forgiving.

I went to a Golfsmith store Friday, while in Memphis on business. They have a launch monitor and I wanted to try several drivers and compare my performance with each of them. I tried the TaylorMade CGB, the Cobra L4V, the Cobra LD F speed ( my current driver ) and the Callaway Hyper X. I swung my current driver to determine if the launch monitor would correctly show my normal misses and distances. The monitor seemed right on the mark!

I had been doing a little reading about current drivers and I thought I might end up ordering a Cobra L4V with a 44.5 shaft, and an undersize grip ( I wear a cadet small glove ).

So, I hit my current driver around 10 times and then the L4V. To my surprise, I hit my current driver a little farther and more consistently. The fitter handed me the new TaylorMade CGB. I must admit, I couldn't get used to the triangular shape, especially after hitting the Cobras. I hit at least as many balls with it, and a couple I hit very well, but I just couldn't find my groove with it.

Next, the fitter handed me the new Callaway Hyper X, Fujikura Fit On shaft, regular flex, 10 degrees ( all the drivers were about 10 to 10.5 degrees with stock regular flex shafts ).

I started my golf life with a Callaway Haweye driver and irons. I drifted away from Callaway drivers, flirted with them occassionaly, but never really returned to them.

The more conventional shape of the driver appeared smaller to my eye than the others I had tried. I asked if it were 460cc. The fitter assured me it was.

After a few practice swings, I stepped up to the tee and swung. The swing felt alright, just an easy fluid swing. The results on the launch monitor shocked me. My ball was straight down the fairway almost 20 yards beyond any other ball I hit! The launch monitor score was the highest of any I had made during that session.

I'm a sceptical fellow, so I hit several more balls. Being the amateur I am, I mishit a few. But I also hit more long drives with the Callaway than with the others.

The launch monitor provides a screen that shows every drive with every driver with distances, launch angle, clubhead speed, ball speed, etc. The best and most consistent results were with the Callaway. That was the last driver I would have ever thought I would have bought. However, I walked out of the store the happy owner of a new Callaway Hyper X.

The lesson to me was clear. I'm just not going to spend $300 or $400 on a driver or any other amount on clubs without doing some comparisons on a launch monitor. The results can be sobering and instructive and, in my case, point me in a direction I would otherwise not have gone.

Hope that shaft change works for you.

I have stopped experimenting with that as a cure for that occasional AFLAC shot. When my body wants to duck hook it, I could put a clubhead on a utility pole and quack it.
