New to this forum. I've been golfing for about 20 years and have ALWAYS used an old Ping putter that was given to me. I'm finally trying to get back into the game after a 2 year hiatus and of course the 1st thing to go is my putting. I  go and practice putting twice a week but still am blowing it with short(er) putts ... I mean, like 3 footers. Then the long(er) putts of  like 25-30 feet I an pulling hard left - presumably from the long back-swing I have to make to get some speed. I know this is primarily a skill issue and I am trying to get THAT under control -- but the other part of it to me is the putter. I'm seriously considering new hardware in an attempt to "help" me. Something with maybe a bit more weight to it. (The Ping putter is pretty light.)

Does this make sense? I guess what I'm asking is have you gone through this issue and were you able to actually solve it with a new heavier putter? And if so, suggestions of which one(s) I might look at? I really don't want to have to spend more than $100-125 if I can. There are sooooo many choices out there and I don't want to waste my money.

Thanks in advance.

Get fitted for an Edel putter . Eliminate your aim bias . Last putter you'll ever own.

What he said -- But first, solve any lapse in putting fundamentals after a two year hiatus. I don't know what putting method you've adopted - but find one that seems to work, then get fitted for an Edel. Worth it because it's the last putter you'll buy.

Another custom putter with no prices. Must be like a yacht.  If you have to ask price, you can't afford it!

Thank you all for great suggestions. I actually Initially had my eye on the Odyssey line - having handled a few in the pro shop. I'll take a look at your other recommendations; as well as equal focus on my "fundamentals".

$325 to $900. Variable weight models are typically about $500. Or the cost of 2-3 putters you probably can't aim and which don't have changing weights and which aren't fit for your alignment and stroke/speed control.

ANd everything is custom -- head, offset, weight, sight lines, loft, shaft, grip, counterweight, even pixl inserts...

Heavy Putter by Boccieri Golf.

I use one of their mid-weight putters. I tried a couple of other brands in the store. Salesman put this in my hand. After trying a few other putters, I kept thinking "what would that have felt like with the Heavy Putter?"

Got it. Have loved it ever since. The rest of my game stinks, but I enjoy my putting now. The prices are right what at what you're wanting to spend (at least looking at prices at a couple of the big national chains).

Only drawback (that I know of) is the weight it adds to the bag. But I usually use a pushcart, so it doesn't matter that much to me.

  • 5 weeks later...

If you want the best technology of any putter at your price range, check out our classic Battleground Series. We just gave this line our Multi-Rebound Radial Face Technology, which was only available on our AMG series till now. The radial face gives you ground hugging roll the second the face touches the ball, which means it will stay on its line. The distance correction technology is only on Bobby Grace putters, check this out

You can take my opinion with a grain of salt seeing as Ive only played golf for less than a year (4 months these past two years, and 1 month so far this year).

I used to think shit a putter is a putter... it doesnt really matter which one I get as long as I can putt with it.

Ive been playing the Odyssey White Hot #1 and I really liked it... that is until yesterday when I tried out a few putters at golf galaxy specifically the Scotty Cameron Laguna 1.5 ... it just felt so good hitting golf balls with it... the golf ball seemed to fly off the face and the feel... omg the feel!!

I love that Scotty Cameron.

I used to think all putters were equal... used to.

... unfortunately the putter not in the plans for this fall/winter where I plan to buy a new snowboard ($400) and phone ($500+)

I also tried the Ping Karsten Zing and really liked that one too, much more affordable :D

    • Yeah.  As far as remaining still, I was thinking body rotates around the spine like an axis.  Instead of pivoting, some like me, sway, come off that axis, leave weight on back foot, etc.
    • I apologize on behalf of… idiot men. Sorry about that. Next time, tell the guy to shut up. 😛  Day 553, May 8, 2024 18 holes from the whites with @rwolfe. Windy AF today, but hit some good shots. Slid back a little from where I was the previous two days, but… I can get it back. Made a pretty nifty birdie on 12 from some pretty odd places. 😄
    • The angles look fine. Get as much light as you can on the area — you want the highest shutter speed you can get. Less blur.
    • Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.
    • Tested the Maxfli TourS yesterday. Compared to my former ball, the Titleist AVX, I got an extra 10 yards off the driver and half a club (5-7 yards) off the irons. The combined extra yardage from the driver and fairway wood meant that on par-5s where I usually hit an 8-iron third shot, I hit a PW. It's just a smidgen softer than the AVX and seems to spin well. Some of the reviews indicated a low ball flight, but I did not notice it. I also did not observe any problems with the paint quality, which was an issue with previous Maxfli models up to and including the U series.  My previous round I tested the Bridgestone E6, a two-piece ball with a different cover. It was OK; the same distance and feel as the AVX but with less spin.
