Where do your misses go? High right? Low left?

It appears that you may have a little reverse pivot going. You seem to finish in a bit of a reverse-c position. It's a "fire and fall back" move that robs power from the swing and makes it harder to hit the fairway. How do I know? I wrote the book on the reverse pivot. It's my signature move. Seriously, my swing is much improved since getting a proper weight transfer.

Try to get most of your weight on your left foot in your finish. Finish standing more upright with your belt-buckle toward target.

Having said all that it would be good for you to explain where you miss most of the time.

Hiya Dent

I have to disagree with Jeff.

You have a good golfswing. No weight shift problems anywhere. No reverse pivot either.

If you were my student, I would ask you to post your butt a little prouder at address - giving your spine a slightly better tilt toward the ball. I feel you stand a little too upright.

Next, I would ask you to slow down your backswing by 30% - this would give your tempo a chance to develop. Right now, your swing has a one-size-fits-all tempo.....you rush the clubhead away from the ball. Eaaaaaaassssyyy away!!!

Your hands are good & high at the top of the backswing, you have a good strike through the ball.

On the sequence down-the-line, you did two things I would say you need to work on:

You did not stay down through the strike long enough - you were up&outofthere; really quickly, and you did not hold your finish at all.....which shows you maybe are using the ball sometimes as a "barrier" for your swing. This happens to us all....and if you have a pre-shot thought, try to think "play to my high, balanced finish".

Good luck!!!

There's no reverse pivot, but c'mon? A left leg bent that much at the end of the follow-through? Something ain't right there.

Unfortunately, it's tough to give any real analysis. Camera angle is important, and in this case, should be either straight on (not slightly behind) or dead down the line. Also 60 FPS or at least a solid 30 would be good, as well as a player that lets you skip through frame by frame.

Hi Dent,

Just took my first look, and I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Basically, you've got a great swing. Excellent tempo, and a lot of potential.

Two thoughts, one on basic fundamentals, and one purely my personal opinion.

First, you need a bit more spine tilt to the right, away from the target, at address. Inadequate tilt to the right causes difficulty in making a good backswing turn. Make sure that you create the tilt by tilting your pelvis, not by curving your lumbar spine. Your spine should always be perfectly straight at address.

Second, the part of your swing that's being questioned, i.e. a "reverse pivot", is actually a bit of an old, classic "reverse C" finish position. Although Johnny Miller still talks about this, it's really not a good idea. It's purely an after affect of trying to keep your head still while you're trying to make a good golf swing.

If you tilt forward at address, which you obviously should, and then you turn your hips, your torso will swing in an arc. Since your head sits on top of your torso, your head will move. Don't try to keep your head still. It will cause problems that only your chiropractor will love.

I've always been fascinated by the words and phrases used to describe the golf swing, and by the frequently incorrect or misinterpreted cause and effect relationships. The one that comes to mind now is "keep your head behind the ball". Never "try" to keep your head behind the ball. It will cause serious issues. Here's the important part...while making a good golf swing, your head WILL be behind the ball at impact. That's a golden rule. However, it will be there because of correct ball position, a smooth tempo, a correct backswing turn, and a smooth move forward to initiate the downswing. It's not behind the ball because you're trying to "keep it" there. Be loose, be smooth, be rhythmic, be balanced.

Let your torso turn, let your head move. This is tough to do in writing...your shoulder turn should be level. Think about facing LEFT of the target at your finish. Think about your right shoulder chasing through impact. Here's an interesting little drill...make practice swings while maintaining your forward spine tilt all the way through. Literally. Try to keep looking down, as though at the ball, while you make a practice swing, all the way through to the finish. This will force your torso to turn. In the actual swing, of course, you will naturally end up in a balanced finish position, NOT a reverse C.

Long & straight!

thank you all for the input, im going to write these all down and try these all at the driving range as soon as I can get there. Mukegman: When i miss i go high left.

I agree i do seem a little upright. And i will try to figure out how to slow down my swing.

I think my leg is bent so much on the followthrough is because i lean back a little.

No advice just a question? Do you tend to hit your irons solid, pretty high, but you lack consistency with woods? distances and sometimes accuracy vary big time?

Well i have the opposite! Can hit driver amazing but can hit irons

Its a funny game!!!

Dent,

It is hard to see much in the video but here are a few things I can see. You take the club back a little to the inside and then loop it so you strike the ball outside in. Not terribly bad but its there.

In your setup it looks to me like you could widen your stance a bit. Also, it is hard to see from the angle but your ball position looks too far forward. Finally, I can't see it clearly at all but from the way you manipulate the club at address and during your waggle I think your grip is too strong. That last one is a guess but an educated one after watching thousands of people on the range where I work.

Anyway, you have an athletic swing which is great. You have a good swing that needs to be tweaked by a teaching pro and you could be very good. I have a sneaking suspicion many of your inconsistancies are because of your setup.

you just summarized my game perfectly right there, thats exactly what i do.

@NM: Yea i can agree with you in widening my stance and putting the ball back in my stance a little, i have just always done it like that for some reason. As for looping the club outside in. Im sure i do it but it does not affect my swing too bad as i can still hit straight, i will try to work on that but thats one of the lower priorities as it is not affecting me much. My grip yes is too strong, but then when i loosen, i get afraid of letting the club get too loose in my hands.

I have to agree with NM about the stance, it was the first thing I noticed. Just widen it a bit. And I felt that you needed to slow down the temp as well, especially in the back swing.

Hope it helps and good luck!!

the only noticable problems are your tempo( to fast or a take away ) and you weight transfer.. both of these will cause you to be less consistant..

first you dont pause at the top of your backswing the golf swing is not one swing its consists of 2 parts just pause at the top for like 2 secs then when your coming down get your hips through the shot, because your falling back on your swing which cause shorter distance and higher shot go through the shot nice and strong and on ur follow through you should be more upright not falling back on it.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
