I am the poster child for poor tempo.  When my tempo gets off it gets way off and I become very fast.  Some days I have trouble getting back to slowwwwww.  I feel like I was not fast and a friend will tell me that was very fast.   I was looking for a way to get a good tempo and keep it and I bought the tour tempo app. for my phone.  It is certainly way overpriced.  I have only played one round since geting it but it gave me a means to stay on a reasonable and consistent tempo wedge through driver.  Tempo is the lynch pin on my game.

I listened to the tones in the car on the way to the course and got the beat in my head.  I literally  chanted that in my head as I was swinging at the range and on the course and it worked for me.  It is nice that it is on my phone and therefore always with me.

Is it for everyone, no.  I do think it can help people that get out of sync and get very fast from time to time.

I know and hear all the time that everyone has their own tempo, but I would just be curious to see how my tempo actually stacks up to the elite players. I'm like you in the fact that sometimes I'm fast and sometimes I'm slow... It would be nice to find a rhythm and stick with it.

This might help, if your tempo is erratic it is impossible to be consistent.  Getting this rhythm in your head helps keep the same tempo.

And at $14.99 in your country you think it's overpriced?

lol, I was thinking the exact same thing when I read his post! I was thinking he was getting ready to bash tour tempo when he said it was overpriced and then he praised it. :-)

Consistency is my number one problem. I am a scrambler with a great game (PGA Caliber) from 60 yards and in... I just know that I never ever swing with the same tempo.

For what it is relative to other apps it seems overpriced.  I think if they lowered the price they would sell more.

I think the issue here is one of perceived value. For me if a product gives me an excellent return on my investment with it I class it as valuable, hence my first post being confused as to why you feel it's pricey for what you said it's given you.

In terms of the actual product I agree as it's essentially a simple app with a menu that turns on/off several sound files depending on your button press.

Agreed...

I might favor this due to a significant musical background, but I often keep a metronome in my bag. I don't use it when playing, but when I start to feel my tempo come out of sync, I can always pull it out, put the volume on max, and set the rate where I need it to be. They are cheap and can be very effective.

You can also download a metronome program for you phone for free.

I recently purchased the TourTempo App as well. Haven't had a chance to use it much, but I see where it could work. I have a very "thick skull" though and little sticks, so we will see. I get extremely fast a lot of the time as well, especially when under pressure. I try some breathing techniques before I hit which help sometimes. I am going to use the winter to work on some things in my heated garage. Hope it works!

Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated

Hmm good idea. I have an MP3 player I suppose I could build some click tracks in Sonar and export to MP3 format. Do you use a 3 count or 4 count beat? Is it something like 1 & 2 are the backswing, 3 is impact and 4 is the end of your swing?

Not quite that simple go to the tour tempo website.

As I said I literally chant the beat in my head.  I think chanting the beat helps drown out the other voices....

Can't listen to the full thing at work but seems about what I said (3:1 ratio....  1 & 2 are backswing, 3 is impact).

Edit: after actually being able to listen to the video they say 1-3 are the backswing and 4 is impact. Pretty straight forward.

Might sound ridiculous but I found if I can't remember the timing correctly (Start backswing on 1, start downswing on 3 and impact on 4) I hum "Rupert and The Frog Song" in my head and that reminds me.

For me a good tempo starts with a solid easy backswing, if my tempo is good

i try to focus on this, the downswing should start with my body turning back to

the target than my arms.

as you can see in my picture, my hips are out of the way at this point

now i can just pull the clubhead to the ball.
