So I have noticed over my last three rounds that I am progresively getting worse. What started with a hook with my driver has since turned into crummy contact with my irons from the fairway and a loss in direction on approach shots. My scores have been 86, 89 and 90 respectively. I know not to ask "What is wrong with my swing?" but seriously, does this happen to others? Have I changed some fundamental technique that I am not realizing? I understand why this game is called golf (and not other 4 letter words) but seriously, how can things change this badly this quickly? Coop :~(

That is only a 4 stroke difference, does not look like your rounds got that much worse.  Just keep practicing and try not to let it get in your head!

Everyone has their good and bad days.

I guess I should have added this but today I took a mulligan because I could buy one (no evcuse) AND several ground under repairs saved about 3 OB's.

I am a higher handicap than you (Don't keep an official one yet but shoot in the mid to lower 90s usually) but I have had some days where my swing just would not work right.  A few months ago I had a day where I could not even get the ball up off the ground and probably would have shot over 120 if I would have kept going (quit after 9).

That's golf!

Seriously though, if professional golfers have up and down days , why would you expect to be any better. Just as an example Poulter shot 69 his second round @ the Bridgestone and 80 his third round. Stewart Cink shot 66 (1st round) and 75 (4th round). It happens, so don't get to down about a few higher than normal scores.

I shot a 91 Sunday. My best round ever by around 7 strokes. I adjusted a few things that I was not doing the previous 15 rounds. Moral of the story, I wasn't contempt with my crap swing.

A guy a play with twice a week, who normally shoots in the upper 70s starting missing terribly. He went back to his instructor that he hasn't seen in years and in 5 minutes he was fixed.

I find the better you play on a more consistent basis the more we do wrong and get away from what we had previously focused on.

The average score for a tour pro is around 70ish that doesnt stop you from seeing scoreboards riddles with 80s and 85s most weekends.

Thats golf a 4 shot swing isnt the end of the world and neither is a 10 shot swing... just ask Rory McIlroy.

    • Yeah I really want to avoid the rabbit hole if I can  🤣 I'm not sure I'm going to make my lesson Tuesday though, whatever I did to the back of my hand at the range is getting worse, but that's a whole separate issue 🤣
    • Rory becomes the second person after Tiger to pass $100 million in earnings on the PGA Tour. Earnings always favor recency since purses go up. Scottie's first win was in 2022, but he's already at $75 million with "only" 18 professional wins. Rory McIlroy $100 million career earnings PGA Tour, joins Tiger Woods Until Sunday, Tiger Woods was the only golfer in the history of the PGA Tour to surpass $100 million in career earnings. Now he has company.
    • Can't tell 100% from your videos but if your right hand is too far underneath the grip the tendency for most folks is to roll it close through impact little too early. Try putting your right (trail) hand more on the side of the grip instead of underneath at address for a simple enough adjustment. This might help. In general match-ups matter greatly and you might have to make corresponding changes. I wouldn't even begin to suggest whatever those might be. Best to get a good pro to help. Self-diagnosis/experimentation can work for some but for most it's a rabbit hole.
    • Been away for a few weeks. A bit of tumultuous times at work. We had about 4% our exempt workforce laid off. My project from hell won’t let up. Just been burnt out the past couple of weeks and the cold crappy weather. Back at it now. Backswing drill - working on swing path feels. Right wrist bent, more feeling the palm facing away from me. Feeling the hands stay in front of me more.  Downswing- Feel like I make a big long arc with the butt end of the club to my right pocket. More out away from my shoulder. Combining this with recentering for timing. When I make a 60% swing, the clubhead feels like it’s arching from the inside and lower way more.
    • Its tough, "greatest" is subjective, measured in many different ways, while goals and assists are simple numbers.  And even simple numbers aren't always directly comparable across eras, as you mention.  A truly amazing coincidence, if Ovi scores 2 goals in the next 2 games, he'll have exactly the same number as Gretzky (894), in exactly the same number of games (1487).
