Has anyone had the chance to hit the new G20 driver?

A lot of the people I play with have always loved their ping drivers and I am in the market for a new driver myself.

I am currently leaning towards the RAZR Hawk or R11.

I don't think it comes out until tomorrow but I'm sure there will be a ton of people who are fans of it. Ping always has great drivers buuuuut If your looking at the R11 I would say that's the way to go.

To my knowledge, it's not actually in stores yet.  In my opinion I think that it's ugly but PING does have a good reputation with regards to their drivers so I'm sure it'll have it's shares of fans.

Correct, I think it releases or preorders are tomorrow maybe.

I just wasn't sure if anyone maybe had a chance to hit one at a demo day or something.

I went to Golfsmiths Ping premier thingy on Thursday and the Ping rep was there with a ton of clubs you could hit without taping up and what not. I found the irons feel just like my G15's. The Anser wedges didn't feel any different then the Tours or Eye 2's. However the driver was awesome. It has a very hot face, much more so than my R11. Swing speed was a little higher but the club seemed a little lighter too. At address everything sets up just like the G10/15. What surprised me was the launch angles, this thing launched very high. I have my R11 jacked up to 11.5 degrees but if I were to purchase a G20 I would opt for the 10.5. Also at impact the sound is about the same as previous models, perhaps a little lower pitch but not as low as the R11. It's a winner if you don't want an adjustable club but the 5 yards or so I picked up will not end my love affair with the R11. Besides, I don't completely trust indoor launch monitors and would want to see real ball flight before dropping $325.

Thx for the review, anyone else had the chance to hit one yet. On a personal note tomorrow I am using a demo octane. Guess I'll get an opinion on that tommorrow.

Had the opportunity to hit the G20 Wednesday, I also brought in my own G15 to compare. I hit about a dozen with each. The data on the screen showed the G20 to be about 4 yards longer with a little tighter dispersion pattern. Not sure if the $299 price is worth 4 more yards. The G20 felt the same as my G15. Both have the stock shafts. Just my observations.

I thought the G20 looked and felt exactly like the K15 minus the heavy draw face. If you set them side by side you can see the head shade is identical but I haven't read the specs on either of them.

I hit the G20 today and was really surprised by it.  It has a fairly square look at address, which took some getting used to, being a Titleist guy.  It was a demo 9.5 degree with the TFC 169 S shaft.  My average spin was around 1850 with a high of around 2000 and a low of around 1650.  I don't know what that shaft really is, but I've never had such low spin with an S flex.  Specs say it torques at 5.9, but my average launch angle was 15.5.   My current driver averages 8.3 seconds flight time.  This one was around 7.1 with way more distance...like 40 yards more.  I like my current driver/shaft combo because it is laser straight, but I get a little nervous with the high flight time.  It's just in the air way too long for comfort.  The G20 with the stock shaft had a little draw to it.  I'm hitting it so much squarer these days, I don't need the backspin to keep it on line, so I was looking for something different.  I may have found it....  Waiting for the price to drop.

I purchased mine friday and i have only had time to hit it about ten times but so far I really like it. My brother in law made the comment about how much the ball jumped off of the face and he normally uses his razer hawk.

I can't speak for the G20 but I have hit the R11 and Razr Hawk and I didn't care for the R11 at all. My drives have significantly increased with the razr hawk, not only longer but I'm hitting more fairways too.

I traded in my 12 degree G15 for a 12 degree G20. I have only had one round with the G20 but what was obvious was that it was incredibly easy to get the ball off the tee and I seemed to be hitting more fairways than I previously did with the G15. I believe that this is due to the clubhead being more square at address.

I hit it yesterday at Golfsmith ... for my swing the K15 is still a better club on the monitor & what I hope to be playing soon.

Wasn't really in the market for a new driver but bid on a G20, with a low bid not really expecting to win, and the auction ended today and I won. It will be nice if it arrives before the weekend, I'll update after I get to hit it.

Tried the G20 again.  It's definitely longer than my driver.  I hit the stock 9.5 degree with the S shaft again just to see if it was a fluke.  I'm really surprised how much farther it hits the ball than pretty much any other driver at Golfsmith that I've tried.  I hit the Titleist 910D2 and my low/high was 280-295.  The G20 was 305-330 with around 5 swings.  I'm really shocked by it.  Same launch monitor, same position, same balls, just different club.  Part of it is the weight.  The G20 is a bit lighter than the Titleist.  That has always made a significant difference in my experience.  Dispersion seemed not quite as tight, so there was a price to pay for the extra distance.  Curious to try it in an X shaft to see if it will tighten up the lines a bit...

I'm really liking mine.  Have the 9.5* with the Tour D stiff.  Not a huge difference from the G15, in terms of performance just spins less.  I do like the color scheme, grey with the white half moon

Mine arrived on Saturday and I went to the range that afternoon to hit a few balls. Sunday, I put the G20 in the bag and went to the course. The square club face is going to take some time to get used to. Most of my drives were to the left but I think with a little more time I can adjust. For only one round (7 drives) my average yardage was 10 yards shorter than my Nike Driver, but most of those were in the left rough and didn't much roll.

I'll get to the range again this week before playing this weekend and hopfully work out the kinks, I like the way the ball comes off the club and the feel, just need more time.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
