How does the phrase go? "Everyone is famous for 15 minutes."

So post your " Moment of Glory" .  It could be golf related or anything.

For me in golf.

A photographer snapped a picture of me on the tee early one morning with a telephoto lens.

Early morning.  A real nice shot.  I was unaware.

I was surprised to see it on a billboard used for advertising a cell phone.

Kind of neat to see yourself life size up there.

That's pretty cool... yet, illegal.  Unless you gave the photographer permission to use your likeness in the form of an advertising campaign... he and/or the company for whom the advertisment was created owe you some money.

Back on track now... I don't have any golfing moments of glory.  Closest I came to any such thing was finishing runner-up in the C flight of our Club Championship two years ago.

It was explained to me that if you are out in public that you are fair game for a photograph that can be used anywhere.

This is in Canada.

Ahhhh... that may well explain it then!  It's very possible Canada has different regulations surronding issues like this.

I know for certain that, in America, a release form is required to use the likeness of any person in a photograph, video, or any other form of media.  Public domain would not cover this.

Either way... it's still pretty cool that you're on a billboard!

I picked this off the internet and it's from the U.S. so I think the photographer is in the clear on a golf course.

Photo release forms are usually not required of subjects in news photographs (including campus newspaper or television coverage) at public events, such as a basketball game, campus rally, etc. Media visits to the classroom are not considered public events, so release forms should be collected and students should be given the opportunity to opt out of the photo session.

Generally speaking, what can be seen from public view on public land can be photographed without legal repercussions. Photographs taken in private places require consent. Photos taken where there is an expectation of privacy (such as in classrooms) require the person(s) in the photograph sign a Photograph Release Form. Public events, such as the Ohlone College Graduation Ceremony, do not require a Photograph Release Form.

Hmmn?

I played Pebble Beach for the only time about 25 years ago.  It was also the only time I used a caddie.  I was on the 18th tee and pushed my drive, short, behind a tree in the right rough.  I hit a 6 iron to get back to the fairway and it also faded into the rough.  I was about 190 out with a pretty bad lie so I decided to hit a wedge to get back into position to be on the green in four.  I left it about 100 yards from the pin and hit a pitching wedge about as cleanly as I could.  The ball hit six feet to the left of the pin, spun two feet to the right, and stopped.  My moment of glory?  When walking up to the green with the caddie the people on the veranda gave me the only golf-related standing ovation of my life, so I tipped my hat to the people who were clapping. I'm thinking, now THIS is what it's all about!  I'm guessing that they thought that I would be putting for birdie.  The great feeling ended when I missed the four footer for par.  Still, an experience that I'll never forget.

I've had a few (by my standards)

The earliest one was a while back, about 6 or 7 years ago (I was 10 or 11). It was Christmas morning, and I had just gotten a new metal-detector. I was like a kid in a candy shop! With a metal detector!

My dad took me to the beach to comb it over, and the newspaper team was there. They took a shot of me doing my thing (hoping to find a gold ring), and I was on the front page the next day.

Another was a while back I joined oobgolf (online scorecard database and such). I input some of my scores and back then it came to a +2. something handicap. Not too bad (before my knee dislocation). I saw they had a 'player of the week' section, and decided to send an email asking what the requirements were. I immediately got an email back saying they'd love to have me as the player of the week, along with the questions I had to answer. So, if you googled my name, that is one of the first things that pops up haha. It's pretty cool. That's about all I have to think of right now haha get back to me in a few years...

My old band played a live set + interview on radio once. It was only a University station in Adelaide, so probably only about 12 people listening, but hey, we'll take it!

I held my high school (basketball) career all-time leading scorer record (and many other scoring records) for 16 years.  I am no longer #1 for any of them now, however...

So you had your 'moment of glory' and be proud of your accomplishments.

It's tough to compare records however from other years because the rules change.  e.g. three pointers.   When I played there was no three pointers.

Also.  Who was allowed to shoot for the technical fouls?   Do you see what I mean?

    • Feeling a tiny bit more upright, more width, and a slightly faster tempo. Still not enough confidence to bring a square face set up to the course but will get there one day. Interestingly, it didn't take this long to bring the driver square set up to the course. Its is like rehabbing my ankle all over again. Slow, painful and wanting for patience. I guess this is how you fill this bucket - one spoonful at a time.
