The action starts tomorrow with stroke play qualifying, then on to match play. Everyone has to root for my good buddy Sam Yi! He's been out there since Tuesday, has had a couple of practice rounds and says the place is pretty bonkers. Super long with the crazy greens. Standard US Am course formula it seems these days.

Other names to watch is UCLA's Anton Arboleda and my other friend Chris Baingo. Ahhh, to be young and kick ass at golf...

Anyone else have friends playing or favorites?

Just got off the phone with him and he sounds happy and confident. He's got the beast Erin Hills tomorrow. 157 players in, the top 64 players advance.

Will be pulling for him.  Hopefully he will have good luck.

Thanks dude!

Did you happen to get a look at the Erin Hills scorecard? 7760yards... He told me the 10th hole, 524y Par-4 is a 280y carry to the fairway, which, if you do hit you're probably looking at 3wood or hybrid at best to a tight landing area/green protected by bunkers. Just a brutally long course... I find the par-3 9th a little funny. Only 134y? There's gotta be something wacky about it...

I looked over it quickly....but it's ridiculous!!  Haha.  I wish I had the game to play at that kind of level!

On the Golf Channel right now is a 20-man playoff to determine the last four seeds in match play. The players have been split into four fivesomes to complete the first playoff hole. The term I would use for this scenario would not pass the forum censor.

Those holes with that wind are brutal!

Poor little Sam Yi.

As the story goes the second day of stroke play had been delayed due to severe weather conditions. Sam was originally to tee off at 2:40, but did get out until close to 6pm. That late in the day he was only able to get five holes in. One birdie and finished with a bogey on 5. So, not so bad. Back onto the course the next morning and he just doesn't have it. bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey to finish the first nine, and the second nine didn't get any better. Unfortunately.

But, he's on his way back to town, and has PGA Qschool Prequalifying in late September. I think he may be turning pro too, so he can come hang with the big boys.

Peter Uihlein, Patrick Cantlay, Tom Lewis, & Jordan Spieth......this thing is packed with future stars....

Cantlay vs. Lewis is on and I have a job......thanks capitalism

The course is amazing.....how much do you want to play that course?

I love the 9th hole....only 140 yards downhill......target is small as a postage stamp.....

It was nice to see Kent State product John Hahn advance to the Final 16 for the second straight year. Now that he's graduated, he's headed to Q School in the fall.

I got to play a couple of rounds with him before he went to high school. The kid can really pure the ball. Good luck Hahnie!

Cantlay was a little brat.

They talked about his composure the whole time, then he lost it several times and his interview was embarrassing.

Gotta little bit of growing up to do maybe?

I noticed that a bit too although I didn't see the interview. I can't believe the 8i layup into the bunker mistake....that just blew my mind. IMO, that lost it for him

He is only 19 so of course he has a bit of growing up to do.  Hell, at 31 I still have growing up to do!

Was it the interview in the press room which you are referring to? That is the only one I could find.

No, the quick one after the round had finished

Sure, he has the right to be upset, but suck it up for two minutes and do the interview.

I didn't get to see that one. My coverage ended with 2 holes left to play.
