I would have to say that Kittyhawk is in much better shape. It was at least before we hacked it up. I'm afraid it's about time for them to punch the greens. As far as @Jeremie Boop getting hit with a golf ball... That had to hurt.

Surprisingly it wasn't too bad, spit some blood for a couple holes but other than that my bad golf was much more painful than the golf ball to the mouth was rofl. Need to get some more rounds in and try to get down there again so I don't stink it up so badly.

I ended up with a 97... A NINETY-SEVEN!!! Shoot me now. I'm liking the extra distance with my driver, but my short game has gone to sh**.

I'll take the blame, my crappy game infected you for the round. Don't worry, it'll all get better now.

Other than a 41 I shot a week ago, it's been ugly all year. It wasn't you.

So how exactly does one hit themselves in the mouth with a golf ball?  Did it hit off a tree and come back or....?

Golf cart...

After my sister got done telling me about how it was going to rain all afternoon, it barely rained a drop. My buddy decided not to go, so I played Hawk with a couple of guys that I joined up with. The good news is that it seems Kittyhawk is starting to get things figured out. The course was much better than the last time out. Bad news was that I face-planted on the Nasty Nine (back nine of course). 5 balls in the water.

With skill and practice. I did it intentionally to punish myself for such bad golf :-)

But yeah, like Shane said:

Golf cart...

I hit the ball off the toe of the club, hit the cart and it bounced back into my face hitting me in the lip. Wasn't nearly as bad as it sounds, wasn't much pain and just have a slight fat lip. Luckily it wasn't a tree which would have let the ball retain more speed... That would have probably left a mark.

I didn't bother keeping score for the round, just scored each hole in my head as we played. I think I had like 3 holes ESC and if I had kept score would have probably ended up around 110. For me it wasn't about the score because I haven't had much time with a club in my hands yet this year, was just about getting out there. I'm doing a better job this year of not getting upset about bad play, which has made my enjoyment of my time on the course so much better.

While I haven't hit myself (yet) I've had to dodge a few coming back at me off trees and rocks and such.

Forgot to put on here I played Windy Knoll in Springfield last Saturday.  Shot an 87.  Course was in really good shape.  Got rain off and on all day and so that made it interesting as I've only ever played there a time or two before.  Was wayyyy off with a few distances.  Only real complaint has nothing to do with the course itself.   Whomever they had making the food at the turn took forever (~20 minutes) to get everyone's order and it caused a backup of groups on the 10th tee by the time we got back out.  Got a talking to about our pace of play by the marshal a hole or two later when it wasn't really our fault, but i can't really blame him.  Had a great time overall.

Also, if anyone is interested, they have the hovercraft golf carts for some ungodly amount.  You don't even get to drive them if you did rent them which takes 99% of the fun out of it.  Got to look at one in the garage behind the pro shop and they look awesome.

Can anyone give me a review of National Golf Links that is just east of Springfield running along I-70? I am going to be in London for a week of work and I usually get 2-3 rounds in at National Road golf course which is a dog track ran by really nice people and the pace is excellent. National Golf Links is about 15 minutes further away and I am usually fighting daylight when I get done up there.

I like that course. I always liked the layout of Snyder Park in Springfield before it closed. Conditions went downhill significantly in the last few years before it finally closed. It's going to be a garden now. Seriously?!!! A garden?!!! Anyway, they don't let people drive the hoover craft for fear of not operating it properly and tearing up the golf course. A guy I work with is a certified hoover pilot and has one that he built. It sounds like there is more to it than just driving around.

I played that a few years ago. It's a pretty decent course. I can't say a whole lot since I've only played it once, but I would give it a go.

I completely understand why they don't let people drive it, but if I'm playing $185, you better believe I'm taking it for a spin when the pilot is taking a bathroom break or something.

If I'm paying $185, I want a full blown, bag-carrying, advice-giving, drink-fetching caddy.

Windy Knolls is another than I haven't played yet, but intend to.

Hey guys, I just started a "My Swing" thread (it took a while to figure out that doing it from the iPad was way more difficult than just getting on the desktop).  Check it out, let me know if you have any tips. http://thesandtrap.com/t/82179/my-swing-buck-nutz#post_1145634

Also, after being on shift work for the last 10 years I forget that most people work during the times I play golf but I am looking at a round at Pipestone on Wednesday.  They have an 8am tee time for $17 before GN adds their fee.  It will total around $21 with cart.  It is a prepay round so I will throw some trust out there on the line and cover it until we meet.  Let me know if anyone is interested!!

Well it was a rough rough day of golf, pushed and got 45 holes done in about 5 hours. Somewhere in the middle things were going really well, except for putting... I couldn't get the speed down for the life of me today. Ran the game golf app on the 2nd 18 just to see how it worked out. It's a bit of an annoyance to have to get the phone out for every shot and it wasn't always very quick to update to my current position. I'll try to use it a couple more times to see if it gets easier to make it a habit.

Pipestone ate my lunch the previous trips out there. Even so, I wish I could.

As far as tips go, you probably ought to give me tips. When I finally get enough rounds posted for my handicap, I'm anticipating a number north of 20.

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
