Decided to play Community with @missitnoonan this afternoon. Beautiful day but played crappily. 82 on the Dales course. They aerated the greens. Ugh. I drove the green on 18 and my ball backed up a few feet. WTF?

I'm glad you were feeling well enough to get out and play at least. I've been jonesing to go golf, went to the range and hit wedge, hybrid, driver because that's all I have at the moment. While there I did try out a couple drivers also to see if anything that had a price drop was worth looking at getting. I did get a good surprise when I was there, found out that my irons are supposed to be in by Tuesday already, that will give me some time to play with them before the outing.

I wasn't feeling that well actually. It's like playing while being hammered. It was a beautiful day though.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you guys get a chance and want a day trip, head down to the Links at Rising Star. It is one of the Casino courses just inside the Indiana line just off 275. It was a GREAT course in GREAT shape. A buddy and I went for a round after 2 and paid $27. We played very quick so decided to play another 9. When we went to the clubhouse they charged another $14 and said it was a twilight rate. Told us to play as much as we could but to have the cart back in by 8 as the sun is setting earlier. We putted out on 18 in the dark at 7:55 pm. Shot back to back 81s (39-42, 40-41) which is on my better side. Maybe that is why I am so pumped about the course!! It is a great day away. If anyone wants to go down let me know and we can car pool![IMG] [/IMG]

Well crap, my second favorite course to play is closing this year for good.... They have chosen to keep the other smaller and more crappy courses open... I'd have much rather seen them close one of the shitty courses...

That sucks. Sound like you lot are a bit thin up there anyway.

Which one was it?

Hawthorne Hills. It's right next to P&G; and my dad just told me that P&G; bought it... So that means no chance that it'll be reopened, they are going to tear it up and build on it... Sucks really bad, it's like 5 minutes from work so it was super convenient too.

I played there. So much better than that other golf course I played when I was going to school at ONU. Good rates too.

But you probably know the course is doomed when there are 5x as many photos of people playing Foot Golf as photos of golf golf on the "Course Photos" section of the website.

Yep, the email said they tried everything they could to stay open. Just makes it so there's only one course I care to play around here. That course was pretty busy with leagues too, so it's hard to imagine that they were struggling so badly. I don't know of many times I went out there that the weren't pretty busy. I'm actually surprised that it's the first course to close, we all thought that Springbrook or Lost Creek would be the first to go under as neither of them have done well for a few years now.

So when are you moving south @Jeremie Boop?

I've thought about it, somewhere within 30 minutes of work wouldn't be too bad and would put me within 30-45 minutes of all those courses down there.

Probably the owner jumped at the offer by P&G.; It may not have been much a reflection of how the course was doing.

That's a possibility, but I know all the courses around here have been struggling. Either way, the result is one of the better courses closing. I know Shane knows how that feels.

Weatherwax in Middletown is also done for. Never actually played there as its a bit far south for me, but one more casualty anyhow. From what I've heard, it was pretty decent at one point. Maintenance had been an issue lately. Now its just going to be a park.

I played out there last week and it was in pretty good shape. The fairways and greens were lush. The rough was pretty hard but it was still all grass. I played Beckett Ridge Country Club today and the pro was talking about Weatherwax. He said they are hoping they keep 2 of the 4 nines open. The rest is supposedly going to be a park. It's a shame, I played in many high school matches there and really enjoy it.

Still battling vertigo. Lost my balance today, rolled my ankle pretty bad. Went down hard and cracked my head. Looks like this season is over for me. =[

That sucks man, you really started getting things together. Hope it passes and you get back to feeling normal again. Well, as normal as you can be at least

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
