if making a club as big as the usga allows (460) makes a difference then there wouldnt be a limit.

if anything by its design its either spins a bit lower than most club heads or theres just simply less forgiveness.

either where it has a performance effect of some kind

After reading this thread I had to join up and hopefully throw some light on the 48" shaft of the long tom driver. A few years back there was a company called "Black Rock Golf" and they made the Killer bee line of golf products, which Golfsmith now has, but their claim to fame was the use of long shafted drivers of 48" up to 52". Me being a sucker for every new product that offers you distance I bought one with the 48" shaft, it took some getting use to because of the length, but when I hit it none of my friends could out drive me. On a solid hit it was 290-300+ yards on a normal hit 260-280. The control in my opinion was no different than any other driver I have used in the past. If you have a bad slice or a hook it will accentuate it a bit so this driver is not for you. I used the Killer bee driver a long time until the shaft broke and could not be replaced and I have been looking for one just like it since, and with coming out with the Long Tom I have found it. I tried one out at Golfsmith and was hitting it 260-280 again compared to the 240-260 i was with the other drivers so of course I purchased one. Its cold here now so have not been able to get out with it but it will be warming up soon and I will be out driving my friends again!

If you could hit a Killer Bee 300+ yards, you could hit almost any modern driver 300+ yards without even trying.

I have a similar story to RN2013.  I had a Killer Bee back in the 90s.  (Actually it was a freebie from the guy next door who was the manager of one of the local TV stations who got it as a promotional thing, but he was about 5"&" and couldn't use it at all.)  I hit the thing 280-300+.  (Even off the deck!)  In my mid 40s I was longer than anyone at my club.  I had to use a slightly flatter swing because of the longer shaft, and in my terms, You couldn't horse it.   Eventually I caved in the face.  Black Rock went out of business and I was never able to get a similar replacement.  I've purchased roughly ten new drivers since, each with "better" technology, bigger heads, higher COR, longer shafts, all the possible new features.  I've never been able to reproduce the distance and consistency and most importantly the "buttery" feel that I had with that Killer Bee--until now.  This Long Tom (By the way, my first name is Tom) has that same feel and it goes!  It's easily 20-30 yards longer than my Ping G10.  I feel like I just went back 15 years.  The 48" isn't a big deal relative to your overall perception of what you're holding and swinging.  A few swings and it's totally natural.  Actually if you go back to your regular club, probably a 46" shaft, it looks really short.  Way back, 43 1/2" to 46" was a big jump.  But it worked.  Now 46" to 48" is very similar.  Think 260cc driver heads (the Big Bertha) vs. 460cc heads now.  Back then even a 350cc head looked like a watermelon!  This club just might be the Fountain of Youth for this 60+ year old.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
