Long time viewer, first time poster.  I am currently gaming MP-52s and I can't hit them (digging too much).  I have been golfing less then in past years.  I did have some PING G10s, but the size of he heads made me feel like I was swinging a shovel.  I am also taking some periodic lessons, but need a stop gap.  Any recommendations for a forgiving iron?  I will consider any brand.

Take a look at the Cobra S2 or S3 Max set.  SGI set but the soles are not as wide as some of the Ping models.  Very good club with a nice feel at impact.  They're reasonably priced as well.

Always changing:

Driver: Cobra S2/Nike VR Pro 10.5º

Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour 4-9i

Hybrid: Titleist 910H 19º & 21º

Wood: TaylorMade R11 3w

Putter: Odyssey White Hot

Wedges: Titleist Vokeys - 48º, 54º, 62º

First round: February 2011

If you like Mizuno take a look at the JPX 800 or MX 200/300.  You might also want to have the lies on your current clubs checked to make sure they are appropriate for your swing.

Mizuno MX-25 or MX-200.  Both are forged, are pretty forgiving but arent shovels.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

I wouldn't include the MX-300. It's intended more to blur the line between a player's club and a GI club. It may be forgiving for a PI club, but I wouldn't hand them to someone who just asked for a forgiving iron. Maybe include the JPX 800-Pro, though. It's about at the MX-200 in terms of forgiveness.

I was under the impression that MX series was their GI series but you're right about the MX-300 - its Maltby rating is in between the MP-52 and MP-53.  Only the JPX 800 is considered "game improvement" by Maltby, the rest are "conventional" including the JPX-800 Pro

http://www.yonexusa.com/displayproduct.cfm?productid=824 would be my own recommendation.

There's a lot more detail on the technology behind them on the UK site at http://www.yonex.co.uk/golf/Product.aspx?ProdID=895

I absolutely love mine. If you can find a local stockist it'll be well worth trying them out.

Would love to know the MPF score for these.

Agree 100% about the MX-300.  It offers more forgivness than an MP but you definetly have to hit near the center of the clubface most of the time to hit it well.

I'm a bogey golfer, and I find game improvement irons inspire a lot of confidence for me at address.  Personally, I'm leaning toward irons such as the Acer XF HT irons or perhaps something like the CER VX OS irons.

I'll second the Cobra suggestion.  Great clubs.  You can also find some Cobra FP irons for around $175-200 online.  Great deal

Thanks for the replies. I found a 'mint' set of JPX 800s that I am very happy with. The soles seem narrower than on my old G15 and appeals to my eye more. It came down to these and Cobra S2, but the JPX 800s felt better.

I know the MineralGray seems to have found a forgiving set he is happy with. I just wanted to meantion to those of you that don't mind Large Iron heads that the Most Forgiving set I have ever hit is Callaway FT Ibrids, next would be Adams hybrid Irons, and lastly Ping G5 Irons.

    • I've used this for planning, good information about courses, regions, transport, and lodging. Amazon.com  I prefer to stay in B&Bs, and have enjoyed playing many non-famous courses.  Hiring a car for many weeks is likely to be pretty expensive, but train travel is possible between regions.  I don't know about taxis for getting to courses, but that might be cheaper than hiring a car.  I certainly recommend staying in St Andrews for a while, there are 6 courses within the St Andrews Trust, and a shuttle will take you from one to the other, not including the Castle Course.  Beyond that, there are a dozen or more good courses within an hours drive, including Carnoustie and Kingsbarns and a bunch of lesser-known but fabulous courses.   Good luck, Scotland is a fabulous place!
    • I am looking to do a solo trip to Scotland, maybe 3 to 4 weeks, not golf every day but see some of the country in between. Looking more for convenience of travel to courses  than any particular courses. Any help on  best location, courses, accommodations appreciated.

    • Yeah, I saw that. I'm assuming that will be considered desicration of the course or something and whatever consequences. It should.
