So I took some video on some strokes out on the course today and decided to put them up here to see if I could get any good pointers on what to do better. So without further ado,

Hi Klutten3,

I am no pro, so take this with a grain of salt, but it looks like you have a fairly armsy swing. You look tense at address and it appears you take the club back very tense as well.

Your downswing seems forced. Maybe try relaxing/dropping your arms at the top and only swinging with your lower body.

Yep, I do use a lot of my arms in the swing and that's because I'm incredibly not limber. About being tense at adress, I have to say I haven't felt as relaxed in my swing before as I do now and I honestly don't know how I could feel anymore relaxed lol :)

How much comparison have you done between these vidz (or others that you've taken) and a pro's?

Your groove is good, your plane is good, your impact position is good (all without being great per se) but there are so many things people of our HC's can learn simply by comparing our swing videos to (any player from any pro tour in the world)

First thing I would teach you if I were any good of a teacher - straighten your right arm and keep it as straight as you possibly can. It looks like you're smelling yourself at the top of your back swing! lol.

So many minute things can go wrong in the golf swing, so why not try and fix up one of the major causes for concern. Start with that right arm. From experience, that will help majorly!

Hahahaha, I lol'd at the part about me smelling myself! I have a medical condition that makes it impossible for me to fully extend my arms, particularly my left, so my arm is pretty much extended to it's capacity. I'ts something like short tendons but I can't explain it properly in english I'm afraid.

EDIT: I haven't compared my swing to pros but I've looked at a lot of videos of Anthony Kim's and Phil Mickelson's swings.

Here's an update on my swing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSDm8YudAQA&feature;=plcp

I haven't actually had that much time to improve my swing since the last video was taken at the end of last season and this being the beginning of the season. But I've taken a lesson for the PGA trainer at my new home course and he helped me a lot with my posture. Still working a few changes out from the lesson though. My handicap is still 12,7 but my goals are to get in to single digits this year and be a "force to be reckoned with" in the junior competitions.

Hello again guys, I'm just updating the thread in hope of getting some help with a few problems i have with my swing. I think its too flat in the backswing, especially with the longer clubs, and I have a hard time hitting down on the ball. I've hit a lot of thin shots lately... Does anyone have any good swing thoughts or drills to improve my swing?

    • @jxdama: Same dumb schtick since joining. Yup. Also, it's a par-73.
    • Day 97 - 2025-01-05 Showed up to something that absolutely floored me, and then was busy right through to 9:00. So, I got 5:00 in at night, at home, before bed. My rib cage hurts from a cough (ha ha, but also, f***), and I think I have a mild ear infection in my right ear. Things are just f***ing great.
    • OMG Jerry Barber shot -20 back in 1960! Let's go back and time and bitch about how easy it is to play golf. My goodness, Calvin Pete shot a -21 in 1986! Wait a second, David Duval shot -26 back in 1999! Hold up, Ernie Els shot a -31 back in 2003!!!!  (all scores at The Sentry, it is a very easy golf course for PGA Tour players).  The concept that golf in the past is this protecting par or what not is just romanticized BS. Golfer's have been tearing apart golf courses for decades. Let's have a sense of perspective to base our opinions, ok?
    • I wont  comment further except to say maybe we  can get a  -40 winner soon on these tests  of golf  skill     Hideki Matsuyama runs away with The Sentry, breaks scoring record to open new PGA Tour season Hideki Matsuyama picked up his 11th PGA career win on Sunday afternoon in Hawaii.
    • Day 4 - Had aspirations for range work but a family activity went a lot longer than expected. So 6 minutes of mirror work, feeling good about weight shift back and transition forward.
