Are you really able to picture Donald showing off?!? I am not even sure Luke would like to switch his year with Bradley's :D (imho)

Donald's consistency justifies Tour Player of the Year, and Bradley should get Rookie.

I can see the argument that's made for Bradley as Tour Player given his two wins with one being a Major.  It seems Majors are weighted differently depending on the discussion.  If they both stopped playing today and we looked back on their careers in 20 years I'd guess Bradley would be considered the better golfer given his Major win, but today he's 2nd best.

My vote goes to Luke Donald - no major but his consistency and performance were unmatched.

That stat says it all for me too. Haven't seen it before, so thanks.

Anyone who picks Keegan Bradley has to at the very least come out and admit their biased opinion, and if they do, fair play to them. From a non-biased golf viewpoint, its always been the animal, the Don. And I'm biased!!

Yeah, yeah, sure he'd "give it all up for one major", but if the question is who was consistently the best player on tour this year, the answer is blindingly obvious.

Could not have put it better my self

Far fewer guys have been World #1 than won a major, so I would argue that Luke has had the better career.  These guys are professionals so money is a factor too- Luke has won more this year that Keegan has in his entire career- and that is just on the PGA Tour.

I agree that Bradley's 2 US wins were better than Donald's but Luke's were not weak with a WGC event and the last event to win the $ title.  With 2 European wins this year, he leads the race to Dubai and could officially win both money titles with a lead of over €1 M currently

Yes, there will be a big hole on Donald's resume if he never wins a major, but I would still consider him having a superior career than Rich Beem, Shaun Mitcheel, Ben Curtis, Michael Cambell, Steve Jones, Paul Lawrie and a number of other major winners.

Sorry my wording was unclear.  I wasn't stating I think Bradley had a better career, it was more a comment that when I hear people compare golfers from the past the most referred to state is # of Majors won.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a rookie of the year question that I think makes sense to post in this thread.

Will Charl Schwartzel be the first ever PGA Tour rookie to win a major and not win Rookie of The Year? (since Bradley will obviously win it)

Also, please don't start this "he wasn't a real rookie, so no" rubbish. He was a rookie by PGA Tour definitions and was on the ballot, so he is a rookie whether you like it or not

Charl already has a trophy wife.

Would not be fair.

I think so, but Tiger won a major in his 15th professional start ever during his first full year on Tour and did not win Rookie of the Year that year.  He got that the year before while competing in only 11 events- 3 as an am.

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
