Very surprised to hear about this but after the year he's had there might be better opportunities elsewhere.  Seems like he's moving to Horizon where his buddy Graeme McDowell is represented.

Ernie Els left a few weeks ago also.

I think Rory wants to have more control of his own schedule. I couldn't imagine him actually wanting to go on that 7 day China Challenge thing last week.

The manager works for the player. It's not the other way around. The player has ultimate control over his/her schedule. If Rory doesn't want to play a particular tournament, Chubby might protest but he really can't force him.

Yeah, you say that, but I think Chubby's gotten a bit chubby in the head lately if you get my meaning.

Players with McIlroy's stature get a boatload of money before they even tee it up. Sometimes that involves playing when and where you're told. Suck it up Rory - you're a gazillionaire!!

I had to chuckle when I read the details about Rory telling Chubby in the JFK lounge ... if that were you-know-who there would be all this consternation over how it was done.

Rory might have considered playing more tournaments in the states and Chubby probably wouldn't support that without a fight.  It's all speculation, but with Rory's potential I think he'll do okay with a different manager.

Mcilroy speaks out about the split

Quote:

Was the back-nine meltdown on Sunday by Rory McIlroy at this year's Masters the beginning of the end of his relationship with Chubby Chandler and International Sports Management?

“It might have set the wheels in motion in some way," McIlroy said, according to the website Irish Golf Desk. "I was getting advice from left, right and center after the Masters . From people I was close to and from people that just wanted to offer some sort of help."

The tenor seemed to be a belief that the Ulsterman must take control of his own career, including his development as a golfer and a budding superstar.

“I really had to filter everything through and try and make decisions myself. Sometimes I felt I let people make decisions for me instead of taking my career into my own hands and deciding this is what I want to do, this is where I want to go. That day at the Masters helped me do that," he said.

From that Sunday, McIlroy made a string of decisions that showed his independent streak: working with putting guru Dave Stockton before the U.S. Open; deciding to pursue No. 1 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, his current girlfriend; joining the PGA Tour for 2012 and, ultimately, leaving Chandler's ISM for Conor Ridge and Horizon Sports Management.

“Again, even things like ‘I’m going to play in this tournament or I don’t want to play in that tournament’ … just doing things for yourself a little bit. I even said afterwards it was about being a bit more cocky, more selfish or assertive or whatever you want to call it," he said.

“Making decisions for myself and really putting my golf and my career first. That’s what I wanted to do.”

IMO, it's all part of the maturation process and I think it's great that he wants a larger say-so in his professional career.

You know, I can see how a "Chubby Chandler" looked at Rory Mcilroy with dollar signs in his eyes which could've lead to a VERY dangerous "Don King" type of scenario for Rory.

Kudos to Rory for having the maturity and balls to stand up to a potential controlling situation, breaking out of it and living his own life as he see's fit.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
