I already met this years biggest goals. Breaking 80 was the biggest goal, and I did it with a 78 last week.

Instead of picking another 'number' goal, my new one is to break 80 consistently, with a lesser goal of beating my personal best of 78.

Also, beyond that, improving my driving accuracy AND distance. Of course accuracy is my first goal, then ill work on improving distance. 260 in fairway is better than 300 in the woods.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

1. Improve  Driver ( I usually have to tee off with 3 or 5 woods)

2. Break 90

My goal this year is to break 85... I'd like to say 80, but... baby steps.

I shot an 87 the first time out and an 89 the next time, and since then I've been in some outings, so I don't have scores for those.

But tomorrow is a normal day so we'll see ;)

My putting's been good, chipping has been good, driving/woods are improving, and ball striking is either spot on or slightly off.

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

2012 is half over.. So far I've -

Increased my driver distance & accuracy.

Chipped much better than 2011.

Hit my irons better.

I'd like to,

Learn to fade/draw with a purpose.

Putt better.

Win a tournament (single or team (just won 2nd place w/ my team Saturday)

Shoot low/mid 80's on my home course.

2012 golf goals would be: Shoot sub 84 every time. To do this I will: 1) practice putting, chipping, bump and runs, 2) play distances, rather than smashing it as straight as possible... 3) focus on hitting a part of the green rather than trying to just hit it.. Leaving my ball on the wrong side of the pin kills me every time. Compete in long drive champs... 1) check it my numbers on a launch monitor 2) buy a long drive club 3) smash some shit. Help my partner to shoot under 100! 1) go to range, 2) encourage 3) not take it too seriously 4) have fun. Just quietly, this is a great thread, reading the title actually made me think about what it is I want to achieve in 6 months. something ve not ever done in a golf sense Only problem is, while everyone in the states is coming into the height of summer, us down in kiwi land are coming into the lowest of lows in winter,

Break 90.  I almost did it last weekend....92.

And I can think of at least 6 greens where I 3 putted that I could have done a better job on.

So I guess my short term goal is to not come up so short on long first putts!

I made this today for my home course. Right now it has a simple drawing of the green on each hole with dimensions and some distances from tee to [significant tree/object/turn]. My goal is to fill it in with awesome notes and breaks in the greens in an effort to make myself pay more attention to the course and use the knowledge to my advantage. EDIT: Yes I know it is June. I can still accomplish this goal before 2012 is over!

I bought a 3 pack of these. There are 2 other courses here I play a bit less frequently...those other 2 books will come later.

Driver - Cobra S3 9.5* - Mitsubishi Rayon JavlnFX M7
Fwy - Titleist 904F 18*
Irons - Mizuno MP-14
Wedges - Cleveland 588 54*, Ping Tour 58*
Putter - Ping D66 (iWi)

My goal for this summer is to play low 90's and break 90 for the first time. To achieve this I have to:

1. Improve my iron play. Gaining consistancy and accuracy due regular and smart range practice will be the key.

3. Practice chipping and short game.

2. Get more confident with putting.

Set goal begining of year:

of hitting 80+% fairways from the Tee early this year, averaging 78% right now.

No 3 putting - have 5 so far this year.

Learn how to hit my 5 iron, all other irons are good just have a mental block with the 5 for some reason.  Only use it on 2 par 3's, one 174  the other 184 both all carry over water. Parred one last week, birdied the other. Being 69years I think I'm getting there.

Repeat with a win of my leagues Presidents Cup Match or Win the League Championship for the 15th time since 1974.

First half of League ended June 14th and I qualified for the year end President's Cup final with most points taken and also for low net 8 rounds (It's a handicaped league).

First Week of 2nd half starts tomorrow.  Going for Champions ship qualification this half.

Well, I need to beat my dads friend and my uncle, so where talking low 70's or scratch golf lol. Hmm thats not going to happen this year so.... Breaking 90 will be the goal. It will happen .

Sincerely, Jim

i started this year shooting in the 110-120 range and all it took to get down into double digits was consistent ball striking, knowing my clubs distance, and better putting.

i shot 89 (a career low) last week, even though i only hit 4 fairways i managed to hit 5 greens because of my iron selection.

best of luck to you, and don't worry about settling for less than 90. i left the course thinking i could easily shoot in the low 80's if only i would have....

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
