Grrrrr....

I can't help but read comments like this and think "yeah my big house and 3 Corvettes are great, but the taxes are a killer..."

I can't think of a long hitter who, given the option, would willingly accept hitting the ball shorter.

I would also point out that longer hitters are generally better players. This is why when someone says they hit it 300 and their handicap is 30 its a bit skeptical. So really I never found I hit it further off line than players who hit it 200 yards. Given my BAD is way more BAD than a guy who maxes at 200. I find majority of the time, I am in better position than they are. So they might spend more time in the trees, but if I miss one it could be way GONE, but the occurrence of such an event is rarer.

On my way to the range. I'll post video later on. After about a week of the best golf of my life I'm back to being a total mess. Slices and low burners. Yuck. Putting is awesome but who cares if you're 2 over by the time you finally hit the god damn green!

You know where the answer is.

Yup. I'm uploading the video right now. Horrible range session and I can see I'm still doing that weird stand-up thing at around A3. Ball position is way back too which is weird, I kept checking to make sure it was forward... :loco:

Anyway, probably not much to say about this video, same problems as a few weeks back. Had 'em cured for a couple rounds. Set-up looks like crapola too. At least the video removes all the guessing.

I need to:

  • fix my set-up and ball position. Ball position may clean the rest up.
  • Figure out why I'm doing that stupid lift up at A3.
  • And that's it...back to my priority piece. **** me, I am a master at self-sabotage it seems.

Edit* just watching it makes me wanna puke. :yucky: Seeing as there's nothing new, I'm only sharing it as a form of self flagellation.

Guys, is it just me or could he use a lot more pelvic thrust/extension? Red line is left hip location at address.

RE: this Crossfield video... I just want you to understand that the pelvis has to extend (called "goat humping" when overdone). I'd post the hip slide thread here, but no where on that thread is there any mention of this pelvic movement.

Definitely, but I'm pretty sure that's a symptom. When I'm hitting well that just happens naturally. Basically this all just bad sequencing piling up on itself. I'm getting into a crappy A4 and can't recover. Pretty sure that cleaning up the earlier junk with solve the latter half of the swing. I can do it, already have and for long stretches of time. Just letting some bad habits and setup issues creep in that are preventing me from doing what I need to do, which is my priority piece. At least, that's what I think is going on.

From that angle it looks as though you are raising up a bit at the top of your backswing, which is causing you to dive down a bit in the backswing and prevents a good forward weight shift.

Yea, he was doing it a lot worse before Dave and Erik made that awesome video for him (which I watched a couple times when they originally posted it). But now it really doesn't look that bad to me. I think the priority has changed. Just my opinion. And obviously I stand down and am more than ready to learn if they tell me, "nope, same priority."

The head's going up a couple inches, but otherwise, it's a great backswing. I can't see how this is the priority right now when he has no pelvic extension at all and is leaving so much weight back.

I see. I also think leaving the weight back is the biggest problem in the swing posted, I just thought that perhaps it was symptomatic of the vertical movement.

You could be right, I totally admit that. I guess we'll just have to see what they say.

And, Ernest, I apologize profusely if I just led this thread down a bad path. :-D

Something inside me compelled me to say something. Pelvic extension, hip slide, and rotation all go hand-in-hand.

But again, Erik and Dave are the leaders here. I know that. I hope I'm not being too insubordinate here.

Agreed. I was hitting the really well, nice and high, penetrating with a soft landing. It wasn't until that weird "lift" crept into the backswing that everything went to pot. Now I'm capable of hitting anything from a hard slice to an all out top! [quote name="JetFan1983" url="/t/54175/my-swing-ernest-jones/700_100#post_989956"] You could be right, I totally admit that. I love the discussion, it's how we all learn. It easy to pick out faults, it's an art/science knowing which one will fix all the others if prioritized.

Jason, as you know, or maybe not, but as a general thing: when you're struggling with ball contact and stuff, make shorter, slower swings that you can do properly and strike the ball solidly. Then work up from there.

Yeah, I hit about a third of my bucket with swings that just went from A2 to A8, nice draws with surprising distance but each time I ramped them up it went to crap. Just going to work on a better set up and practice getting a full back swing with an acceptable key#1 with no ball. It's frustrating to get to such a good place with my swing and then have the bottom fall out. Gut check time. Gotta be disciplined. Thanks for your advice and continuing support @iacas , you're the cats pyjamas. :-)

My post had nothing to do with your post. I was just making a general statement about how to work at the range when the first 5 or 10 balls are hit like crap.

His "up" move at A3 is not the problem it was a few weeks ago, no. Hips forward, left shoulder up. With a better setup.

Just to add to this, it's all tied together. The ball position creeping back means that what feels like hips forward at address is not as far forward as I think it is because they're further back to begin because I'm addressing a ball that's too far back. Moving the ball up will natural move my hips up at address so when I consciously pushed them a bit more they get into a good spot. That should help everything in my set up. Still not happy about that A3 lift but it is better. Not as good as in Erie, but better.

Did a little work on set-up this morning and got some much better geometry. Heads moving forward too much in the downswing but that'll be a secondary concern for now.

Feeling much better about this swing. Gotta make sure that I make time for regular maintenance instead of just playing all the time, too easy for bad habits and old faults to creep in. If any y'all see something I didn't mention feel free to point it out.

Balls were flying a little low but I think that'll work itself out by keeping the head from going forward and getting more secondary axis tilt.

Not golf related, but I see trees in the background with green leaves.  Montreal is pretty close to where I live (north), and we do not have any leaves yet. :-(
