When is someone going to invent mass production cheap quality RFID for golf balls?

Doesn't the technology for inserting a radio into any ball cheaply exist yet?

Do you mean post-production, or during the production process?  Any change in engineering has a cost that varies throughout the production time line.  Are you asking whether it exists, or when it is going to be cheap?  Check out www.topgolf.com for the answer to the first.  The second question can't really be answered succinctly as it depends on engineering advances, world markets including commodities prices, etc.

That will happen when the oil companies allow a car to be produced that runs on water or air. The golf ball companies want you to lose the ball...there has been a ball produced that emitted some type of signal but can't recall the name...I think they went out of business

Slap myself on the forehead, good point. I forgot about that. Amazing that I forgot about my cynicism when thinking about this. Yeah, makes sense. Sure would speed up play though.

I'm going to rathole and hijack my own thread.

How much time do you think the average round would be shaved by if people could always find their ball using some sort of electronic locator. It would be close to the time finding a ball you could see, plus say an average of 15 seconds using the tracker. I would guess 15 minutes a round. Average.

Your delusional if you think the reasons that cars don't run on air or water is a result of the oil companies actions instead of the laws of thermodynamics. If GM (or any other car company) could product a product that would enable them to crush their competition, they would do that.  Heck if exxon had a motor that ran on water, they would release it since they could make orders of magnitude more money than they do right now by pumping dino juice.

There are several golf ball RFID systems out there. No one wants to pay the 200 bucks for them or hit 8 dollar golf balls. Even fewer people want to play an illegal ball (i.e. balls with radio transmitters are nonconforming) even though they are not in a competition.

Not delusional...just used the terms as a figure of speech...just making conversation...by the way have you seen my Titleist "3"?

Just imagine the confusion on a busy day as a bunch of hackers are driving all over the course following signals because they all have their balls set to the same channel.

Hopefully they use Smart RFID so regardless of channel each ball would have a unique id.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
