Be careful with the Hogan stuff.  Got to understand where he was coming from with his information.  A lot of it is feel and a lot of it is genius.  Pages 72-73 are S&T 101 and page 91 is just incorrect.  I don't like the knees kicked in and the right foot not turned out.  Hogan didn't have and issues turing his hips, getting his left shoulder down or getting depth with the arms.

I tend to play much better and swing much better when I don't have all of these kinds of thoughts bouncing around in my head.  I try to focus on one part of the swing per swing, and then work on that one aspect for five strokes and see what kinds of differences I can make.  Basically I try to keep it as simple as possible.  The more I think, the worse I play.  This thread does have some really interesting things to think about though...

I know alot of people think because he was the greatest ball striker that he should be copied. But our mind isn't hogans, our body isn't hogans, we didn't lead his life, all these things represented in our golf swings. I walk fast and talk fast, and tend to do things at a fast pace, and my swing tempo is fast. Its in sync, but its faster than my dad's or my uncles. My uncle is laid back, doesn't like to wake up early, and his swing represents that, its smooth and slow.

I would only take the broad details of hogan, swing plane, impact position. Throw out his grip, stance, posture. Don't matter, build a swing around who you are and figure out how it can work for you.

Ben Hogan had been in a terrible car accident and he was very short. My swing would never look like his.

If there is one professional golfer people should emulate it's Steve Stricker - fewest moving parts of anyone. Streaky and a putter that makes up for flaws, but still he's very successful professional and we aren't so what have we got to lose?!?

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
