Wedges-What brand is the best?

What brand do you feel produces the best wedges? Is it a big name brand? Could it be an up and coming or clone brand? I have a lot of wedges and have looked at tons! Obviously these clubs can make or break a golf round or game. What ones look the best and what ones feel the best? I think the Vokeys by Titleist look and feel great. However I have some other opinions as well but would like to hear some other thoughts before I go on.

I just got the new Clevelands!!...they are amazing!!...have used Titliest and Taylor made fore the last 5 years....these are not even in the same ball park!!!!

I'm not saying they are the best but you should try the new Vokey SM4's.  Best is subjective, and I've used Cleveland, Callaway, Hogans and Titleist.  I like the SM4's and Callaway X Series JAWS the best.  The Clevelands seemed heavy to me and the swing weight difference didn't work for me.

You might want to hold off and wait until February 17th when Callaway releases their new Forged Wedges designed by Roger Cleveland.

I feel that wedges are very personal.  Saying that I love Vokeys myself, the feel is great and the looks are classic.  I have messed a around many brands like Scratch and Callaway but always come back to Vokey.

Give me a trip or two to the chipping green and a practice round and almost any wedge is fit for purpose.

I don't care about bang for the buck -- I use Miura.

Must say that their 49 y grind as a Gap is excellent, and their 56 K Grind is out of this world stupendous in terms of making any trouble shot from the bunker or rough easier. I love the balance as well as the feel - it's a little more dense than others maybe due to the spin welded hosel. The 59 C Grind has taken more time to love, but it's happening ...

But heck, most are all good --  I have a Vokey SM4 62-07 that I use when the greens are postage stamps - it's off to the club guy for a DG Spinner. I like the head of the new Vokey, even more than the Mizuno MP T11 - which are not slouches either. Callaway is coming out with a new wedge in a couple of months -- wait for that one if you're interested.

The best wedges are those which help you get the ball close to the pin. Some people find carry three or four wedges from one Mizuno or Callaway model, others carry an all-star batch of wedge brands.

Besides loft, one consideration on wedges is bounce (angle at which leading edge sets above groundline). Two things to consider on bounce:

• Golfer's swing: Are you a digger (need high bounce), a sweeper (need low bounce), or in between?
• Course conditions: Plush turf, rich soil, fluffy sand - need more bounce. Tight/close turf, hard soil, hard sand - need less bounce.

Sole grind, thickness, and radius can create a difference between rated bounce (measured) and effective bounce (delivered in shot). Cleveland (prior to the 588 reissue) and Vokey offer lots of loft-bounce variety. In your case, a 56* Vokey could offer you three bounce angles and - including custom orders - up to six sole grinds. Probably two or three of these 18 Vokey choices would serve your game better than the remainder.

Like you, several golfers I know have an extra wedge or two they swap in for particular playing conditions.
