My local course here in Iowa isn't open yet but I am already getting ready to play.  I have fully committed to improving my in every aspect.  I recently purchased a book "Fitness for Golf" and getting healthier.  I have purchased a new set of irons, a new putter, and new golf bag, and I am re-reading "Zen Golf" and practicing my mediation and mind drills.  My course does have a golf simulator and my lovely wife got me a nice gift card to purchase practice time so I plan on hitting at least once a week starting next week (work has gotten in the way a little so far).  How is everyone else getting ready?

Well, I took up running last September and lost 22 pounds and have altered my daily eating habits. So that was my start for 2012 (actually running another 1/2 marathon in March, I'm hooked!). I stayed away from golf this winter, except working on mental training as well as completely changing my approach to the game (more fun, less self-pressure).

Started going to the range a week ago and have only worked on 100 yards and in. Moving toward using more options for this part of the course. So, I'm learning to use various shots. Also, green side stuff gave me fits last year. So, I've been practicing the hybrid putt from off the green, using PW to get roll outs, etc. And my putting. Got a jumbo grip put on my putter and have been working on the fluid back through motion rather than slapping at it as I was before.

Played first round yesterday and shot 90 but I was really happy with the areas I focused on. Some old habits crept back in as the round wore on (tempo quickened, too many thoughts pre-shot) but its all good. Looking forward to this year so much!

I spend 2 hours in the morning, at work before anyone comes in, surfing the internet, looking for stuff about golf!  Oh, and putting with my new Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5 on the Living Room rug.

Well my home course is open year round, I even can play in the snow. But its not always possible, so instead I just practice chipping in garden, and just practice full swings. Additionally I hit the gym to get ready when the weather is better. It helps alot.

Courses are open all year round in these parts, so I try and get out twice a month during the winter.

x2 on the running

I started at running program after gaining 12 lbs over the holidays.  Damn home cooking!  Add yoga 3 times a week and with some core training and I'll be in tip top shape for the baseball/golf season.

Putting indoors, making small pitch swings, concentrating on the impact position. I have some indoor golf balls, made by callaway. There just foam golf balls, great for indoor swings. I just like pitching because full swings really launch them pretty good..

I am ridiculously jealous of all you guys that are able to play all year long. It is going to be a few more months before things up here are warm enough, and the courses are open. In the mean time, I have been going to our indoor driving range about once every few weeks, working mainly on the shorter shots (because the range is only about 100 yards) and focusing on making good solid contact. I really can't wait for this season to start, so that I can get out there and see how my new driver and new irons are actually going to work.

Depends on the course and how much time I got. If I'm on a course I rarely play with some friends we usually get there in good time, hit some balls on the range and putt and chip a little before heading out. If I'm playing every second day on my home course I usually head straight out. If it's been a while since my last round I hit a bucket or two on the range before teeing off. The weekly rounds on my home course have to fit between work, school and meals, so I'd rather not waste time on the range.

Been playing 3 times a week here in good ol san antonio. Mostly playing nine by myself on the courses I usually play. Im concentrating on the holes that cause me trouble. I have a few nemisis par 5s. one 650 yards one 600 both doglegs and both a pain in the ass. trying to par consistently even though bogey is considered good. personally i dont consider ANY bogey good. lol

I'm doing range sessions every weekend, and I've played a few nine hole rounds by myself because it's been an unseasonably mild winter so far (until this weekend, when we've been smacked back to reality). Working on some swing things so I'm not even keeping score during the rounds at this point, just trying to apply things I'm working on to playing on grass and hitting real shots managing wind, contours, etc.

It's Orlando, so there's no offseason...weather-wise.

But I don't play nearly as much in the winter. Too expensive, too crowded. But I do practice more - a $9 bucket is a $9 bucket year-round.

About three months ago I started doing yoga & I absolutely love it, and I've just upped it to twice a week. I seem to have gained a little distance - last week at Casselberry I hit a drive a legit 280. That's real long for me - I'm usually around 240. I am crediting the yoga for it. So I am really looking forward to the time change next month & I can start playing after work & at least once on the weekends - 3 rounds a week, two yoga sessions a week.

I want to get my handicap under 5 & play some FSGA events this year.

Namaste. Fore.

Ditto on the too expensive and crowded.  Palm Beach county is way too $$$.  Anyway, taking a set of 4 lessons, 3/4 of the way through.  Instructor is giving good improvement advise so far.  Have dropped over 30 pounds so far, and my swing has changed.

Best regards,  Frank

Not playing.  I'm training for a maraton in May so I'm running and stretching alot.  Hopefully I forget some bad habits I developed last year.

Im prepping by going to the driving range and practicing my chipping and putting on the carpet at home.  Also, this winter Ive been working a lot at hitting from the inside to fix my pull hook that developed recently when I learned to release the club properly.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
