I've been thinking about getting a new driver since mid-way through last season and my wife thought it would be a great idea for me to get one for my birthday. I, of course, completely agreed

So after a couple trips to Golf Galaxy, I had it narrowed down to the G20 or 910D3. I went in last night to decide between the two and was about to go with the 910 until the fitting guy says, "try this one for fun, I just want to see how you do with this" and he hands me an R11S. I had tried the RBZ and the burner and wasn't digging the feel and didn't really have any affinity for the white crown so I didn't even try the R11. First swing was 20 yards past my best shot with the 910. Every other shot was 10 - 20 yards better as well. I can't argue with that kind of distance. I've decided I like white drivers, after all! Now, If spring would just hurry up...

Sure you can,

1) were the lofts the same, were the club lengths the same.

2) were the clubs fitted to optimize your distance

3) Do you use the same launch monitors with each club

4) do you trust golf galaxy

If lets say you hit a 10.5 with the 910 and a 9.5 with a R11S, then you might be more tailored to hit a lower lofted club. Also the golf shaft might be better for you in the R11S. The best way to compare clubs is to get fitted for the clubs you like, then you know, hey i this club is giving me this max, and this club is getting these max. If i tried a 910D3 at golf galaxy, it comes with a Stiff shaft, but the guy hands me a R11S with an X-stiff shaft. I'm probably going to hit the R11S more solid, and get better distance.

When comparing clubs you got to be careful of the loft, the shafts, everything to make an accurate decision. Did the guy sell you the R11S, or the R11S-TP, because if he did the TP, you might have been up-saled 100 bucks.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes to all your questions in this case. This was my 3rd trip to the same store working with the same individual on the same equipment. By this point, there were no typical sales tactics involved. I went into the store prepared to buy a $400 dollar Titleist club, and walked out with a $400 dollar TM club, so it wasn't like I got upsold to a more expensive club. I spent quite a bit of time getting fitted so I feel pretty confident about the purchase. It was more of a I was surprised to come away with a different driver than I expected.

Now stop trying to rain on my parade!!

PS, it is the R11S, not the TP.

Not raining on your parade but I was curious how you got to the Titleist 910D3 and G20 as they are both very different.  910D3 is a lower handicap less forgiving driver with a 445cc head driver and the G20 is a higher handicap driver with a 460cc head like the R11S.  Did you try the 910D2 and not like it or did you just go in looking at the D3?  Also was curious if you verified the settings on the D3 to ensure it was set up right for you compared to the other two.

Sorry, it was the D2...and yeah, like I was mentioning to the other poster, I actually spent a fair amount of time trying different drivers with different settings and through that process narrowed it down to the two drivers.

You most certainly can. You have to compare like wuith like. You weren't. And....an indoor launch monitor at golf Galaxy might be telling you less than youn think.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

And how was I not comparing like with like? I would agree with you on the golf galaxy launch monitor except I was comparing all clubs on the same monitor.

Sheesh, you guys are making me think twice about coming on here and sharing happy club buying experiences with other golf fanatics.

All we are saying is that a bit more experimentation might reveal better results with heads or shafts you are liking the numbers on.

You go with what your gut and the numbers tell you, but club X is not 20 yards longer than club Y without a series of asterixes.

I'm not sure which is the best driver for you, but congrats on finally coming to grips with your preference for white drivers.

I know there's no convincing you, sir, so let's simplify the whole thing. Club B performed better than Club A, so I bought club B. I like club B

Sorry just curious, i just want to make sure. I go to golf galaxy all the time, i see players take a club, go to the monitor, think, OMG i hit this 30 yards further, and leave the store with the driver.

I have to admit though, i think the R11 is a better club than the 910D. It was just more consistant for me in my driver fitting. Though i wish they offered it in the Ping i20 black. Honestly i don't see that great of benefit in the adjustibility benefits. I would want to mess with the loft much, unless i need less than a 9.5. But opening and closing the club really doesn't appeal to me.

In response to the "I like white Driver", i really don't like the white.. I like Ping i20 black, i am seriously thinking of that one being my new driver. If i take into consideration that  the ping i20 is half an inch less than the R11S driver, i am only loosing about 3 yards on the total distance between the two drivers. There wasn't much difference, and both were very consistant for me. Like i said, i doubt i would touch the adjustibility of the driver for me, and the i20 color is far superior ;)..

Yeah, I hear ya, I like traditional black. I have an i15 but I need something more forgiving which was why I was looking for a new driver. Part of my original post was trying to say that I'll learn to be happy with a white driver if it offers me better performance.

I guess you can get use to it. I use to try the original hybrids/rescues, and they just looked F'd up to me. Now i just tried them and there definetly going in my bag.

The only thing i do not like is the old Square shaped drivers that nike came out with. I could care less if i hit it the best, and 50 yards farther, i can't stand it.. But i am really a fan of the Mat finish, the gloss finish should go away. You get no glare on the clubhead, i don't know why this hasn't caught on a while ago.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
