Something different - anything to be learned from swinging children's clubs?

There was a children's clinic at my range coming up so I said why not and tried a kids 7 iron, which is 2-3 inches shorter than my wedge. Of course it felt funny, but it was fun making solid contact with it.

What can you pick up swinging these extra short clubs as opposed to standard length adult clubs?

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I haven't felt a kids club yet that had the right head weight.  They are all too heavy (i.e. cheap and made in china) to swing for kids.  The kids develop a laid-off and stuck move.

Poor posture/setup habits and a sore back.  For me anyway, I am 6'4" and crouching/stooping over like that repeatedly would kill my back.

I know how you feel though, I made a driver for my kids (ages 10 and 12) to mess around with last year out of an old FTi tour head, and I like how it feels to swing it with nothing in front of it.  The trimmed down A-flex shaft wouldn't help me any though, lol..... The kids on the other hand love it.  Especially the sound of it!

Next to nothing? :)

I've hit my daughter's driver (more like a 5W) from my knees a few times. It's fun, and it's surprising how short the ball goes because of the shorter shaft.

U.S. Kid's Golf, etc. make good clubs with good weighting. Just takes looking around.

I worked with kids as an after school kinda golf teacher when I was 18 - tehy thought a girl with a single figure handicap must be good. You know they would send half of them to us with sawn off drivers and 7 irons and the clubs were so heavy with really stiff shafts. The Scots were so stingy with their 'weans' (kids) they would just say, "That'll dae 'im!"

I swing my daughter's old clubs slowly to work on positions, but I don't actually hit balls with them.

Last fall I played in a tournament where they had all kinds of weird challenges and one of them was where you had to tee off with a kids' driver on a 150-yard par 3.  Not sure what I learned about it though, other than learning to think outside of the box in how you would hit a shot with a given club.
