Today I shot an 85. I've been making it my goal to shoot an 88 for a while now (I usually shoot mid 90s) and I finally got it. Usually I can't hit my irons. I've been struggling lately, and I guess the past couple of weeks at the range have paid off. I still had one or two topped shots, but I'm generally happy with the outcome I had today. The bummer is, I also had a couple chunkers next to the green, which I've been good about lately, but I guess everything can't always be working! haha. Hopefully I can break into the 80s the next time I play to prove to myself that it wasn't a fluke.

Congrats!!

Be sure play the ball down so you can accurately track your progress.  Your first 85.........very nice!!

When you say "play the ball down," do you mean play it as it lies? I've never heard the term before. I usually play the ball where it lies. There was one instance today where there was a green valve box cover in the fairway and my ball rolled right in the middle of it after hitting my drive. I ended up getting relief from that. Other than that, I hit off some mud and an acorn looking thing today lol.

I'm right there with you bud. I usually shoot in that same area in the low to mid 90's and the other day I went and played awesome compared to how I usually do. I was with a friend and we just kind of goofed off and hurried the last 3 holes and didn't keep track of score because it was already pretty much sundown when we got to the 16th tee but I was shooting a 70 through 15. The last remaining holes were a par 3, 5 and then a par 4. And with the way I was playing I think I earned the right to give myself a a low 80's score. I hadn't shot a single double all day. I lost a ball trying to cut a shot around a dog leg on the 5th tee box and cut it too much but then hit a second tee shot then wedged on to the green and somehow sank what had to have been at least a 40 foot putt. I suck at putting so that was very exciting for me haha. But on the front nine I shot a 43. Hit 4/7 fairways and 4/9 GIR. Still had 19 putts though. I was able to hit the green inside of 100 yards pretty much everytime which was also huge for me. Now if I can just learn to do that and drop it in close so I can subsidize my putting ability haha. But that's good to hear someone else making progress like me. Keep it up.

Congrats Gordo! My main goal is to just get it somewhere I can put from. Putting is by FAR the best part of my game. I've been pretty confident lately with the putter. That sucks about the last three holes. I know how you feel. We usually wait until twilight or even super twilight to save some money, but sometimes we need to hurry at the end. Make a post if you get a personal best. Good luck!
