Last summer I bought new irons.  Mizuno JPX 800 Pro, 4-PW.  Got fit and had them lengthened as needed (1 1/4", I'm 6'6").  I was still using my SW (beause I love it, although the grooves are gone) from my old set, which was also lengthened years ago when I bought them.  My buddy just bought two new Nike wedges (VR Pro, 56 and 60*) but then got a good deal on a new set of clubs and bought those and gave me the Nike's.  They're not lengthened so I'm already hunched over while swinging them, and the whole club, but specifically the head, feels super light on them but I was wondering if maybe it was just because the club is so much shorter than I'm used to?  Less shaft, less weight?  I've typically never been a fan of a gap wedge, or where ever a 60* falls, so I've only just used my SW and PW to this point and done just fine but I figured I might as well give it a shot.  Beacuse they're so short I don't feel like I can get a good swing on them and I top out at like 50-60 yards with the 60*.  I don't think they're worth re-shafting, seeing as that would probably cost as much as the club did.

Anyone else ever had this issue with buying separate wedges from their set?  Maybe it's mental, well I know the length is a legit issue, but everything about the clubs just feel wrong.  I've always had the mindset that any golfer should be able ot pretty much hit any club and not to blame the club, but I just flat out don't like those Nike's.

If you need longer clubs, I'd get them reshafted.  In the future, place a special order for the longer clubs so you don't have to buy the clubs and then pay to reshaft them.

There's no need to reshaft. Any service center can put an shaft extension  under the grip for a couple of dollars.

In my experience shaft plugs are a bad idea, but I guess it all depends how particular about your equipment.

In what way?

Swing Weight? Flex? Frequency?

If they should be avoided I want to know.

I've found it alters the frequency of the shaft.  Maybe the guy who plugged mine just didn't do a great job, but I won't do it again.  If I wanted a 6.0 frequency on my iron shaft and needed the club a little longer, I'd replace the whole shaft.  Again, just my experience...and I am a little particular.  Also, it's not really a good idea to add more than an inch with a plug and the OP already stated he goes over an inch from standard.

Also, I should have said it in my post earlier.  Plugging the shaft will affect all of those things not just frequency.

I'm totally with you on this one. I demo'd every wedge at Golf Galaxy and every one felt too light. Cleveland, Nike, Taylormade, Callaway, Mizuno, all of them. The Vokey's felt heavier, but still felt a touch too light to be honest. Then I hit a Solus 56 out of the used bucket at my driving range and it felt perfect. Now, I play that 56 and 61 I bought new. If I find a deal on a new 56, I'll get it as a backup.

The Solus is a D7 swing weight while most of the others are a D4 and the Vokey's were a D5 I believe. I don't know why more wedges aren't in the D7 category.

Thanks for the responses.  I think I might go with a new Mizuno SW and then see what their 60* feels like and go from there.  I just get this cheap feeling with the Nike wedge, so much that I'd rather not waste the money to re-shaft it.  Possibly I'd try the plug just to see if by making it longer I can get any use of it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Lengthening the wedges 1 1/4" will really change things.  When you add an inch to a club you add 6 swingweight points (the measure of swingweight) to the feel of the club; it gets heavier in the way it feels.  6 swingweight point is a lot and you will def notice it. material and length to the club, increasing the weight by roughly a full ounce when you consider the shaft extension as well.  The club will also become more upright, I think 1 degree for every half inch.  The shaft also becomes more flexible it lowers the kick (or bend) point of the shaft.  Each swing weight points will equate to a change of 1 cpm in shaft flex.  So, a shaft that is 1 inch longer will be approx 6cpms softer in flex, this would be 1/2 a flex.

Jonny, you mentioned you wanted it heavier and adding the length I just mentioned will do that, but will change other aspects of the club.  If this is what you did with your Mizunos and they work well, then great.  But if you ordered them longer from Mizuno then I recommend adding a little more length, in the absence of re-shafting the club.

The cost of reshafting your wedges should be @ $30 per club (using Dynamic Gold steel shafts) if you're able to salvage the existing grips.  If not, then add a few bucks for a new grip.  Those Nike wedges run about @ $100 each new, so you'd still be coming out ahead overall.  Usually, a 60* is a lob wedge, so it's going to hit it shorter than your 56* SW.  A gap wedge is usually @ 52*.  Your current PW is 45*, so IMO, I think you need a club to fill the 11* "gap" between your PW and SW more than you need a 60* lob wedge.

I'm concerned that if I re-shaft the Nike's and I still don't like them then I'll have go get the Mizuno's anyway.  I'm thinking of taking the guessing game out of it and just getting the Mizuno SW.

In regards to the gap, I think degree-wise maybe, but I hit the PW 120 and the SW 85-100, so anything less than 100 I typically choke down on the SW or use a partial swing.  I think I'm going to go and hit a bunch of different wedges once they open up the outside ranges around here so I can get a good feel on what I want.

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week.
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing.
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process.
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
