The heckling today may have been a bit rough, but he would be run out of my club almost instantly. No matter how well he strikes the ball, he would be hit at for his pre-shot routine.

What club do you play at? I'm curious because I'd like to avoid its members who hit at people for any reason.

Huh? I bet Kevin Na would be one of the fastest players at your club.  I don't care if someone has a preshot routine that lasts a minute long.  That isn't what makes slow play.  As long as he took his clubs with him, lined up his shots while others were hitting and played ready golf, he'd be fine.  He only needs 70 or so shots (probably much less) to get around your course.  He'd be plenty fast.  It isn't six waggles that makes people slow, its changing clubs, chipping back and forth over the green, not bringing your putter to the green, marking your scorecard next to the green, waiting for everyone else to putt before trying to read your line, etc...  He'd be fine at your club - he'd get a huge margin of speed on anyone who shot, say, 95.

Though your point is well taken, see where this topic is going though. Slow play is something we can all adjust to. However, relatively speaking, Kevin Na type players can wipe a victory or great round out of grasp. I used to play with a guy whom would shoot 78-85. While I usually shoot 85-90, I would often shoot 95 when playing with him. His swing is brutal- and overall knowledge of the game etc, are not fit for that score. Meaning if he had to play at a regular pace, say with three strangers, or face getting booted out---he would get killed. He would literally fix every ball mark on the green- wipe debris in his line. If you moved at all when on the tee box, he would stop- readjust etc. Putting, would be looked over numerous times etc. As much as a disadvantage rushing him would be to his game, his repetitive egocentric, selfish behaviour, kills other peoples games- it puts 3 others in his group at a disadvantage big time. I am sure Zach Johnson could have got a couple of strokes better than he did when playing with Na. I like Na, and appreciate the fact that he is competitive, and apologetic about his slow play, but slow play like that is a game killer for everyone else, and outright not fair. There should be penalties for play that slow. (Relative to skill level.) On tour, Na should have been penalized- and many pros agree. Just picture a a baseball game where the pitcher takes 5 minutes to pitch every pitch. It would kill the vibe for batters etc. Its bad.

Kevin Na would be welcome to my foursome any day.  I play in Orange County - the home of the 6hr round.  At least I would see some great golf - instead of being matched up with some of the yahoo's that I find myself with when walking on as a single.

Sure would, seems like a cool guy to me. Just fighting swing demons. Can't hate on a guy for that. Plus, there are penalties for slow play and he only had one breach of that on Saturday and didn't repeat it so he's good to go.

He could play with me anytime. He seems like a super nice guy who is just having head problems. His game is great, he'll work through this stuff.

I was amazed by the guy.  Impressive that he was able to hit decent shots (at least most of the time) after being that uncomfortable over the ball.

The media attention and the Na hate are totally uncalled for. First of all, slow play is caused mainly by hitting the ball awry. So for you hackers claiming he would be chased off your course, the reality is he would shoot a 62 at your course and be waiting all day long for your crappy weak shots. Let's get real here.

Secondly, he only got one warning for being out of position, and he was LEADING at the end of Sat. Where is the problem????

If the only issue was Kevin Na's preshot routine he would be okay in my foursome, but we had one in our foursome that was almost as bad as Na and we no longer ask him to play.  He would spend 45-60 seconds getting all set up for his practice swing, then start all over for his "real" swing, drove us crazy, of course this was not his only issue, the list is rather long and I won't go into all of them, but he rarely played the first hole with us, he never brought enough balls, he dented a driver head and bend a driver shaft (that weren't his), and wrecked a cart almost rolling it down a 60 ft hill with my buddy on board (no one lets him drive).

I played Bay Hills last week (Severna Park, MD).  Total goat track.  Pretty sure he'd shoot 55 there.

Yeah, this sounds almost as bad as taking 12 waggles, but not quite. Taking 12 waggles is apparently up there with torturing babies for some of your people.

He can play with me anytime.

Unless, of course, he walks off the course before he finishes his round. Apparently that's a mortal sin to some.

Kevin and Zach's round on Saturday only took 4 hours, 5 minutes, where's the problem?

That is a twosome, how long would that round be with 4?

Yeah. Like anyone here would actually decline to play with a tour pro cuz he balks on occasion over tee shots. I guess you wouldn't play with Keegan Bradley cuz he fidgets or Jack cuz he stands over putts an inordinate amount of time, right?

Consider for a moment that Na may not want to play with you .

I know. How dare he, eh?

This is like saying, you are a slow driver because you got stuck in traffic.  Sorry but his issues over the ball aren't really affecting his pace of play.  It is painful to watch though.
