Chipping and spinning the ball.

I am not a big backspinner and don't think it necessary for good golf.  Sure i see the pros on Tv but they are not average golfers. Will i see many pros back spin a chip shot?  Seems unlikely to me as chip shot to me means gentle arc and a good run. Back spin, all spinny shots, require vigorous clubhead speed and descending blow, which are not needed for chip shots. Am i correct in this thinking or do even pros backspin chip shots?

Pros have caddies who vigourously clean and maintaint tgeir wedges so the grooves are always clean and sharp Their will always be an element of backspin, thats the nature of the shot, but added with the above it increases it somewhat, thats why occasionaly you see pros come up short on.chip and run.shots is because the spin grabbed and stopped it Its not loads of spin, just a enough

1) There fairways are alot better than the ones we play on, very tight, so less grass gets between the club and the ball (adds spin)

2) there greens are alot better, and faster, so that will increase the distance they can spin the ball back

3) they make the best contact with the ball, consistantly, this increases spin.

Clean contact and acceleration through the chip shot.  A lot of golfers don't accelerate through the shot.

Sometimes if I'm lying in the fairway say 10 yds in front of the green with a lot of green to work with.  I take my 60 and go after the flag. Ball in back of my stance and I have a really low trajectory but if I hit it right, it will take two bounces and stop.  I've had several up and downs already with this shot and have become really comfortable with it.  Out of the rough it's a different story.  The pros usually know how much spin is going to come out of each shot, just a matter of their read on the green and where to land it.

Well the ball probably wont have much spin if its coming out of the rough which is where most chipping takes place but on a low pitch shot the ball should kind of spin, grab and stop. but truthfully it doesnt matter how you choose to get the ball in the hole, just do it in as few shots as possible. whether thats put the ball in the air and let it drop next to the whole and stop or to hot a low chip over the fringe/rough and let the ball roll to the hole.
