Hi there. Wondering what the average price for a 30 minute one on one range lesson with the club pro would be. In US dollars. I am what I would call a raw beginner and have a few local offers going that seem reasonable but I have nothing to gauge off. Lessons include unlimited range access for two months, 8 half hour lessons one on one for $370. Good, bad or average value?

It seems like a good deal but I'd call it a good deal just for the unlimited range balls for two months. :) If the instruction is poor then it may not be a great deal, but if you use the unlimited balls, it can't really be too bad. I'd ask some friends who golf what they think of the instructor. If he's really bad, you'll hear it, and if he's good to great, you should hear that too.

Just focus on hitting the ball solidly and developing a modicum of skills in all areas of the game. And don't think about too many things. Just keep it simple for now.

Lemme jump into this with a question for iacas that may help the OP too -

What about group lesson offers? Here in Orlando there's a local course that offers 6 one-hour group lessons, 6 playing rounds with a pro & range balls for like $180. Seems like a pretty good deal.

What's your take on a beginner taking group lessons versus one-on-one instruction?

I don't know if you're asking me, but group lessons work out really well for beginners.

OP: Better yet, find three friends and make your own "group lesson" package rate with a local (and good) pro. Ask around and get with a good instructor, though.

Yes, I was asking you, Pro. For the benefit of the OP.

Here's the deal I was referring to -

So maybe the OP should seek out group lessons, or your idea of getting some friends together.

Wow, that was quick. Thanks guys. I am in Dubai and it is through www.troongolf.com at the Montgomerie. Non Summer packages are usually about 125US/lesson. Any feedback on Troon Golf? I have some friends on similar packages at the Els club but less one on one and added 18 hole rounds. I get a deal through work for some super cheap single rounds that make up for that by a long way. I did a half dozen group lessons back in the day with some friends but after having a bit of youtube research about the actual mechanics of a swing, we were pretty much just paying for the guys time as opposed to instruction.

Talk to different pro's, find one with a good rep that you enjoy talking to and working with.

I keep my pro on a Salary, with a deal we made. It works out to two lessons a week, as well as a round with him every 2nd, and great deals in the Pro Shop anytime I go in. But DO NOT take the commitment lightly. Find a Pro that has A GOOD REPUTATION for teaching. Some pro's have great game, but are horrible instructors.

I think group lessons or clinics are a good option for beginners.  You can inexpensively learn the basics.  The going rate for private lessons around here is about $80-$100/hr so your rates seem reasonable assuming you're talking about private lessons.  Taking Apoc's approach and putting an instructor on salary can wait until a later date......assuming you have boatloads of disposable cash to pour into your golf hobby.

good deal but check out his reviews. He could be an awful teacher.

If you are in Dubia, and he's a good instructor, the I'd say it's a good deal. Cost of living is higher there, than here in the States.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
