I'm going to caddy, or at least try to, tommorow morning. Anyone have advice?

Where are you going to caddie? Does the golf club have any training sessions for new caddies?

Are you actually going to carry the bag for a single, or two bags for a twosome, OR, will you accompany a cart foursome to spot balls and tend the pin for them?

For broad advice, a caddie is supposed to "show up, keep up, and shut up." If you and another caddie go out with a foursome, the caddies work as a team. If caddie A takes the pin on a green, caddie B often will leave his players' drivers on the following tee box and then go out ahead to the landing area to watch where the drives go. Players not having to look for drives they hit into the rough really speeds up play. Between the player and the caddie, all divots taken in the fairway should be replaced. And, you wipe off the clubface after a shot to keep it clean. And, lots of other things...

The Western Golf Association (regional USGA affiliate) has been a long-term advocate of caddies, and sponsors the Evans Scholars Foundation which offers college scholarships to top-notch caddies. The WGA website has several training resources for caddie masters and future caddies:

Ouch. First time I ever caddied I got $50. You have to go to the pricey places. $50 is nothing for those guys.

The first time I caddied I got $2.75, and no tip. That was in 1962. The WGA book is a good one. I had a copy back then and learned a lot from it, including how to tend a pin the right way, which no one I play with seems to know how to do.

yeah I only shadowed though. I heard that all the jews from another place came there, so that can't help my cause. All the generous italians went to Sand Ridge the partner club, but you've got be 16 there. GRRR!

ok, I kinda laughed at 3wiggles response. It was joke referencing to the common stereotype that people of Jewish descent in the modern world are tight with their cash, you know the whole "if you throw a penny in the street." Sorry.

To get back on topic.  My number one suggestion while caddying.  Don't say a word after your player hits a bad shot.

I caddied a lot at a Jewish club growing up and found most of the members to be generous.  Of course, I knew the course well, was much better than a 20 index and I always followed WUTiger`s advice

How old are you Domenic? The way you're talking I'm guessing 12 years old?

And how do you learn all these stereotypes? They teach that in school? Or the internets?

I can't believe the way these kids act, specifically on internet forums. Do they act like this in real person?

You're mommy is calling you, it's bedtime.

13 but close! Nice try, I was 12 when I started on here. I'm not gonna take your comment so that it would actually get me off in REAL life, like I used to with Shorty. I apologized, and never even said anything without saying I was joking. If you need to make lame insults at me over the web to get your fix, whatevs man. But seriously if this website sets you off, maybe you should try j chillin'. That's all I'm sayin'.
