I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow for a custom fitting at my local pro shop for a new set of irons. I tend to be bias toward Ping simply because my first irons were G 10' s and I've enjoyed great success with them. I'm considering the I 20's as a replacement. I'm a mid to average handicapper and ready to move up to a club that offers a little more control. Any suggestions for other clubs to consider?

Don't rule out a split set, something like i20 L thru 7 iron and G20 6 thru 4 iron.

If you are going with anything other than graphite I would get the cushin inserts in the new shafts.

Then again there is nothing wrong with the G10's. I can score just as well (or bad) with them compared to my G15's or Eye 2's.

I have the I10s and love them up to the 4 iron. I wish I had the 3 iron that goes with the set. They are easy to hit and you can work them. I can do a nasty fade but I sux with the draw. I got these coming off of a set of imitation ping eyes circa 1985. They hit well and are very forgiving. I’d guess the I20s won't be too much different.
