Would have been just fine, but he walked the 18 and I carted it.  Gave me some time to catch up on Angry Birds however.  Good guy, he shot an 89 and I shot a 115; 3 strokes better for me on that course.  I couldnt hit a fairway to save my life today.

Gotta make sure to not lift my head!

Have you tried walking?  I only ask because I know that when I walk - I usually play better.  Especially if I'm playing as a single.  It gives you more time to think and take in the terrain - especially the green complexes as you walk up to them.

Lol maybe if you would have concentrated on golf instead of Angry Birds you could have broke 100.  You couldn't of had that much waiting considering that you took 26 more shots than him.

I know you weren't asking for advice, but....

Golf is meant to be a walking game. Get out of the cart, you'll play better and, instead of wasting time with Angry Birds (while on the course? Really?), you'll be able to enjoy the company of your playing partners.  Might pick up some good pointers, too.

I am all for pointers/tips.  But this dude really never said anything, unless I made a good shot.

Yeah, I could have spent the downtime better, but it is what it is.

Probably not the issue... at least not the biggest one... but anyways, I digress

I don't see the problem with riding. The majority of my rounds are in a cart (in the summer its too damn hot to walk, plus most courses out here won't allow it). That being said I like to walk when I can, I do find it more enjoyable that way actually. I agree that the course isn't the right place for Angry Birds.

From the picture that you painted... It sounds like you were the one not talking much... To me, it sounds like you were too busy playing Angry Birds, instead of focusing on your golf game?

Judging by your score the silence must have been deafening.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

People on this forum tend to take golf pretty seriously; after all, they did join a forum to talk about golf in their free time. Playing Angry Birds on the course just isn't something that tends to go over big with people who take the game seriously.

Did you invite the guy to join you in the cart, and he said he would prefer to walk?

Either way, the comments you received are mostly valid here, just done in an overly-arrogant way (some people on this forum are d-bags).

Your round of golf, you can do what you want...but playing angry birds when?  You should watch all of your partners shots out of respect.

I agree with the "some people are D-bags comment".  So lemme spell it out.

Dude didnt seem to want a random partner, neither did I.

He recently had back surgery, his walk was my crawl

He drove it left, I drove it right.  Other than the green, we were never within 30 yards of each other.

I do enough running/marching to not want to walk 18 holes, $10 is worth it.

If you dont like my score after 7 weeks of playing, FU

And for the people who dont understand hyperbole, i didnt actually play Angry Birds.

If someone arrives at the course alone, a pairing is expected.  Whether you or he walks or rides doesn't matter........

If there is play ahead, it's likely you will be waiting on groups ahead.........not the walker.

So you paint a picture and then get pissed at us because we take you at face value.  OK then.

Some of them take it incredibly serious.

Take the poll about what is the most problem on the golf course today. When the topic includes "Cargo shorts" and "Minorities", it's a bunch of snooties up here

At the risk of being called King Douchebag (hey, I've been called worse), saying "gave me time to catch up on Angry Birds" is not really hyperbole. You'd done nothing to set up that it was an exaggeration, so people took you at your word. If I had to guess, you actually DID play Angry Birds, and when people kind of called you on it, you decided to go with "I was joking."

What any of this has to do with the topic at hand I don't know. 115 is good for playing seven weeks. Keep it up.

Except for my clubs and rangefinder, one reason I play golf is to get away from technology, enjoy the surroundings, friends or playing partners, the play, and the challenge - to focus on the game for 30 second spurts, accept the outcome and relax. The phone goes in the bag for 4 hours.

    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
