Wedge loft/bending question.

Hi All,

I recently re-evaluated my wedge setup and am trying to decide what I want to end up with.  I have the following:

45* PW (part of my Burner 2.0 set)

49* Cleveland 588 TA PW

53* Cleveland 588 TA GW

56* Cleveland 588 TA SW

60* Cleveland 588 TA LW

I have a few questions for you all.....

1) If I bend my 49* to 48 or even 47* (to replace the 45* PW), will it affect the bounce/offset?

2) Do you think the difference between my 9i (40*) and a 47/48* PW too much?

3) Would it be worth just sticking with the 45* and bending the 53* to 52* to close the PW-GW gap a little more rather than bending the PW?

I do love the Cleveland 588's and can hit them beautifully so I am a bit partial to the idea of bending the 49* to 47* to replace the 45.

1. Yes. For every degree of loft you take off, you lose one degree of bounce. For every degree of loft you add you add a degree of bounce.

2. As long as it works for you I see nothing wrong with it.

Personally, I think it's simpler to keep the 45 PW and remember it is really a 9i, and then use a 49, 55, 60 setup.

Bend the 56 to 55 -

I'm using a similar setup.

I agree. I would keep the 45 and then 50-55-60 and ditch the 53. Or you could go 44-48-52-56-60 which gives you a tighter spacing (too tight for me, though as I like 48-54-60).

Same here. My wedges are 45 PW, 50 AW, 55 SW, and 60 LW. I opted to go with more wedges evenly spaced instead of having a big gap in lofts.

What is the distance gap between the 9i and the PW, and the PW and the 588 TA 49*?

Also, what is the difference in shaft lengths between the four 588 TA wedges? In recent years many companies only put 1/4" difference in shaft lengths between the classes of wedges. Normal Shaft length difference between numbered irons is 1/2", so you may have less distance difference between wedges than you think.

If you only have 1/4" shaft difference among the 588s, you might bend 49* to 50*, dump the 53* , and keep the 56* and 60*. (Do you hit full shots with the 60* ? Many people don't)

Just some thoughts.
