At length, and with some convincing by members on this forum to go ahead and play in events, without waiting to get better, I decided to enter into the club championship at my golf course. It's a great deal - $60 for two rounds of golf and a steak dinner, as well as prizes.

So, is there any advice, tips, or anything worth hearing for this tourney?

I splurged and bought some Titleist Pro V1's from this guy who sells them for only $6/dozen (at that price I may permanently switch to Titleist balls), and since the game isn't until the 25th, that's plenty of time to practice, as well as work out my problems.

My main problem, however, I can't putt for shit. I drive a par 4 in one shot and then four putt.

So, any advice/tips?

I would suggest lining up balls around a hole maybe 4 foot out and just work on sinking them for hours no kidding. I would gradually move back a foot at a time until you are just straight money making those putts. Then I would work on chipping back and forth around the greens. Figure out the bump and run and high lofted chip shots. That is where I would start. Tips to putting. I would keep your grip forward when addressing the ball when putting. Deloft your putter if you can. I would also take shorter back swings and follow through your putts. Keep your head down when putting and make sure you don't lift up until you hear the ball drop into the cup Anyway good luck in the tournment.

I'd pay $60 for two rounds of golf and a steak dinner, even if I knew I had no chance of winning.

My suggestion is to take a putting lesson. I took one and my putting has improved. I plan on figuring out one day how to read breaks, so that I can put the ball in the cup on purpose sometimes. If your tournament allows gimmes, you could ask for them before every putt. Maybe if you're playing against the guy from Austin Powers, he'll grant it after three requests.

I thought the guy who sold them on here for 15$ was a good deal. Where can i get them for 6$.

Now, now, I can't let the secret out or every golfer in the world would flock to him...

He's a guy who collects logo balls in Erlanger, KY. I can't give you the exact address, because honestly, I don't remember. The money he makes from selling balls goes to his wife's charity operation, so he's not trying to make a killing off selling them.

How are your putts being missed? Distance control, bad reads, yips? Answer that question and you can improve putting quickly.
1. Short puts, previous post is right, circle drill (keep length of putter swing controlled, either short or smooth depending on your style.
2. Distance, keep your technique simple and focus on ball position, pre shot routine and relaxed feel.
3. Reads, get off the practice green and late in the day practice a few putts around likely hole positions to learn the green, pay special attention to where water drains off the green, putts will drift that way, on longer puts remember the break in the last 1/3 is most important because speed reduces early break.

huh? he's trying to raise money so he's elling Pro V1s for $6/dz? does he buy like 600 dozen of them straight from manufacturer or what?

huh? he's trying to

Nah, he has people like himself go hunt for balls at golf courses. He picks out the logos and adds them to his collection, and then sells the rest for dirt cheap.

A lot of things. I end up either 15 feet short or off the other side of the green on a 60 footer, putting me in easy three or four putt territory. Worse, especially on long putts, I misread the break really badly, so I'm 15 feet short and 15 feet off to the side.

From short distances, I think it's a pain in the ass to try and read breaks on really short putts, so I strike the ball harder than necessary. It means all I need to get right is the line - but if I miss, I'm at least six feet past.

If I was you, I would putt better. Somewhere near you is a course with a putting green. Why aren't you there? The guys that are going to be you are there right now putting. Close your eyes and listen. You hear that? That's the green calling you.

Seriously, there are tricks and theories galore about putting, but nothing will make you a better putter than putting. And it's the only part of this game you can do for free, so there's no excuse.
