Ball embedded in bunker

I hit my ball into a greenside bunker and it embedded (the sand was very wet). I could only see part of the top of my ball. Does the embedded ball rule apply if you are in a bunker giving me a free drop (in the bunker)?

The embedded ball rule only applies to 'closely mown areas through the green' (essentially the fairway).

In exceptionally poor conditions a Local Rule may be introduced to allow relief 'through the green'. This excludes all water hazards, bunkers, the teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played.

No.

In fact, the embedded ball rule only applies to closely mown areas (fairways, fringes, and tees basically) unless a local rule extends it to areas through the green (not hazards).

As it had poured down recently my course was playing preferred lies 'through the green'.  Most people thought that meant anything beyond the green so the pro had to make a sign up saying it was anywhere on the course.

Through the green excludes the green. Considering it's sort of an important distinction, they sure didn't word that very well, did they?!?

Don't you think it would have been much better if that 'pro' had put up a sign saying:

“Through the green’’ is the whole area of the course except:
a. The teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played; and
b. All hazards on the course.'

.. instead of putting up a sign teaching all players totally incorrect things about Rules..? After all, a 'pro' should know these things, and furthermore it is his 'duty' to teach those things to all members.
