Ok so I just had my first evolvr analysis done. The main focus was turning the hips and keeping the elbow in. I can get elbow to be about an inch off my right side. My backswing looks like it rather short. Is an inch of space showing between my right side and elbow okay? Striking well when I do this. Thanks

Sorry for all the consecutive posts, I'd edit my latest but it wont allow me. Like I said I just want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. Right elbow in with full hip turn. Thanks.

Ok been a while. This is me face on after a solid 2 months of hard work with evolvr and overall commitment to improving my swing. Sorry for how dark it is, the way my high speed camera works, it needs a ton of light and obviously I dont have it. If anyone cares I could get a better shot outside tomorrow. Anyways, this is me hitting a mizuno 4 iron pure. Im trying to overall improve my contact, and I've come a long ways. My question to posting this video is, is my head movement ok in the downswing? Is it something I should try and address? I'm not going forward but I do dip a bit on the way down. Jason Day does this as does a few others like Webb Simpson. Should I put in the time to try and fix it? Just want some opinions, and if I would fix it, how'd I go about it? Thanks

Hey thanks for the reply. I definitely understand your point better. I still dont like my tilt away from the ball, I believe its causing my miss of a fat shot. Now bear in mind thats only with a blade 4 iron but still. When I watch someone like Kaymer swing and how level his head stays through impact in the sense it doesnt tilt side to side. Even a guy like Manassero who drops his head a bit because he is jumping, he doesnt tilt his head. If anyone can chime in on the necessary pieces to eliminate that, I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Ahh okay I didn't realize you meant the tilting. That's a good question and I'm not sure. Hopefully someone will come along and give us an answer.

Your right elbow is still going off to your side at A3+++.  Try cleaning that up.

To me - it looks like you have early extension due to the right arm issue which I could clearly see in the DTL video swing in your house posted above.  You basically have to extend - or come off the wall and stand up to hit the ball because your right forearm/elbow is stuck on your side.  Basically, the right elbow placement issue is prohibiting you from regaining flexion correctly.  It is the same issue I'm battling.

When your elbow gets behind your side - you have to tilt more right in the downswing (A5 to A7) in order to hit the ball.  This breaks down the right leg - and your butt comes off the wall (early extension).

Good drills:

1.) Tees under the armpits - keep pressure under armpits and keep the elbow close to your right side.

2.) Head on the wall - ensures you aren't standing up.

3.) Try to feel as though you are keeping your elbows (left and right) as close together as possible on the backswing - this will help clean up the downswing.

Hey Beach, that video was roughly 4 months ago, swing doesn't look too much like that. I'm currently working on my lag and holding that flying wedge. Contact is even more consistent. I'm not too worried about my head movement at this point, Kyle Stanley does a similar thing with his head. The next piece is Keeping my head on the wall.

Rereading your post Beach, I see I'm still having some of the problems you mention. Definitely explains my tilt back in the downswing. Thanks for the tips.

I'd like to see you add some pressure into the ground with your left foot.  Feel like you're squashing a bug under your left toe on the downswing.  I think this will help the footwork which will help the head.  More left knee flex, more pressure, will lessen the amount the right knee bends on the downswing, allowing the right foot to bank.  "Bank" meaning the entire foot rolls forward and then the heel releases after impact.  Not having the heel raise so soon and right knee flex towards the ball.

Maybe a few of these drills.  I'm just feeling my hands and left knee go down, down, down in the rehearsal motions.

    • Thanks! Better though? Not worried about overdoing it yet. These were also the best videos of several I took. More to be done for sure but moving in the right direction I think.
    • Can be out and up a little more. Not quite over-done yet.
    • Down the line and face on from today. Still feeling like I’m sticking the club into a hole in the ceiling above my right shoulder and then big loop inside to start downswing. That’s how it feels. Not how it looks though! Gotta keep working on this for a bit but I see a lot of progress. 😁
    • Day 5 (13 Mar 26) - Friday shootout cancelled- made it a practice round working from mixed tees. Plenty of up and down work around greens.  Best was a hole out birdie on the par 3 #5 hole - nice pitch and roll w/Pw from about 10yds off the green - dead center flagstick drop.  Much of round was focused on getting solid weight shift into lead foot.
    • Day 208 3-13 Worked on wrist arching and flow. First time hitting reall balls at a range in months. It was nice to see ball flight. Still not sure it beats my backyard practice station.
