Seriously, if they have those things then why should they ever miss as far as direction is concerned?

Reference to the old joke?

Golfer: You've got to be the worst caddie in the history of golf!

Caddy:  No, sir. That would be too much of a coincidence.

(Obviously, not meant as a reference to you, Erik)

Because when you're close to straight you might think you're slightly to one side when you're really on the other side. Play a putt right edge and it breaks right an inch, that kind of thing.

i guess im talking about when they have a putt that clearly breaks opposite of what they were thinking.  not often, but ive seen it happen.

If it was up to me.. I'd ban ALL caddies..... They talk about anchoring giving players an advantage... HELLO.. Having an elite caddy gives you WAY more of an advantage then any belly putter..  I find it hypocritical of elite pro's whining about the advantages or spirit of the game while hiring and keeping one of few elite caddies in the world.... Is golf a solo sport.. or a team sport?

I doubt they'd be too useful, unless they had a cart and a nurse following them.

Why don't we just give the players two caddies?  One who knows their game, and one who knows the course?  When did the forecaddy fall out of favor with the world of tournament golf?  (That last question is out of honest interest, though I realize it follows multiple iterations of sarcasm.)

So hire one yourself. No rule - or law - against it.

Realy ?  So you think there are over 200+ Joe Lacava's and Steve Williams elite caddies out there? So that every pro has access to the same talent of caddies.. The point I'm making is that having an elite caddy is not available to everyone, and it does give those Pro's that can afford one, an unfair advantage.. To deny that is being disingenuous at best..

There's a reason that top caddies work for top players..... Caddies earn a relatively small portion of their pay just for showing up. They earn the vast majority of their pay as a percentage of the earnings of their man. Every caddie out there would like nothing more than to be on the bag of a top player.....so from that perspective, all players do have access to the top caddies.....most simply don't have the game/earning potential to attract them.

In David's bag....

Colin, watch this video... Alex Noren and Andreas Hogberg show a typical yardage book.  The tour caddies will know these books like the back of their hand.  And will help the player around the course...

    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
