I took lessons a year ago and honestly it did nothing but hurt my game.  All i kept hearing about was positions, and grip pressure, and how to grip the club, etc. honestly it was too much for me and it destroyed my swing.  Now after a lot of working on my swing myself all i ever work on is three things. Turning my shoulders/chest on the backswing, on the downswing returning my shoulders to the position they were at, during address and staying balanced.  I cant tell you how much better my ballstriking has become.  I'm talking 12+ GIR's almost every round.  Is anyone else like this?  I feel like some golfers are to busy trying to build a perfect swing as opposed to just figure out how to hit the ball solid and consistent and have way too many swing thoughts,

EVERYONE is a feel player.

Everyone doesn't feel the same things, though. Nick Faldo was a feel player (often considered one of the most "mechanical" players), but he had to "feel" things to produce the mechanics.

I like the aim you have "to be a scratch player by years end" awesome. 12 gir's **** I'm jealous!!!

Taking the above advice may lead to destruction of your golf game. Laughing at it may reduce stress.

I believe he meant no mechanics and just swing the club mentality. Not caring about the how they get there but just result oriented.

Sometimes I get too mechanical then play better just swinging the club. Of course it helps me when I just have one swing thought to clear my mind.

Don't know that I qualify for your definition of a low handicapper, but I'm almost completely what I think you're referring to when you say feel player. I have almost no conscious mechanical swing thoughts. I do try to think my way around the course, but the actual ball striking part of the game is strictly "grab stick, swing stick, hit ball".

im by no means a low handicapper, i just started golfing a month ago shooting over 110 on 18 but now ive been shooting consistently 88-92 on my hometown par 72 course. all i think about during my swinging is keeping my head in the same place because every time i move my head i hit it fat/thin. a month ago i was trying to fill my head with all these mechanical thoughts and i played horrible. i reach a lot of gir's just very prone to 3 putting :/

Watch someone who's struggling to hit good shots and wait until they just step up and hit one "just for fun" and see how well they hit it.  90% of the time I see people do this, they hit such pure shots because they get out of their own head and just let natural athletic ability play a part in swinging the club.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

I'm more of a mechanical player, lots of swingthoughts and analyzing. I hope someday I can play with feel and still have the swing I want.

im definately a swing free player as well. im playing at a 3 right now and have never had lessons either. i have found that if i try to get too mechanical with my swing then i have too many thoughts in my head while im playing. if i let my brain override my instinctive abilities then i always seem to play worse. i do adjust my swing and try new things but i never let it take me away from my natural abilities either. im not saying this works for everybody but it does for me so far. definately a fan of the keep it simple stupid philosophy

    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
