Believe me....it's not that easy.

My only point is that I don't like to practice.  I just play........ "A LOT" .

Big bowl of porridge. Light stretches, mainly glutes and hammies. Get 30 balls. 1/2 wedges to an 80m target -about 10 Pw, 7, 5, 2iron or 3w - working the ball a little with each, concentrating on rhythm. 3-4 drivers or I just stop if I see one dead flush. 5 mins of lag putts. A few 5 footers, a few 3 footers. First tee.

I tend to warm-up in two different ways because you never know. If I have time I will go on the range and hit a bucket of balls. First I do some quick stretches and swing with a weight on the driver to loosen up. Then I start with a couple of PW, then go to the 8i, 5i, 2h, and driver. I only hit a few balls with each one. When finished I usually have around 8 balls or so left and use a wedge to pitch to some targets we have setup. Then I go over to the putting green and do a few ladder drills to get a feel for the speed. I can do the entire warm-up in about 30-45 minutes depending. I also practice going straight up to the first tee, put the weight on the driver and take a few swings for stretching out and then I hit. At our club championship this year I didn't wake up to my alarm and got a call from the club pro 15 minutes before the start of my round. Flew up there, stretched out, used the weight, and teed off and did just fine.

There isn't much in golf that I'm 100% convinced of, but this is one thing that I am:  stretching is miles better than hitting balls for a pre-round warm-up.  I learned this when I hurt myself back in 2010; I physically couldn't make a swing unless I spent 10 minutes doing some yoga-like stretches.  I've since learned that hitting balls before a round makes little difference.  You can get the same benefit doing some focused swings with various clubs (you know what a good swing feels like without hitting a ball).

But stretching is key.  Without it, your swing will evolve between the first tee and the fifth or sixth hole.

depends on what the tee time is, afternoon usually running late due to honey do's at the casa, show up jump in the cart with my tote along cooler and of course my clubs hit the tee box small stretches (already limber from working my ass off) then grip and rip. morning tee time putt around then stretching ( i defiantly need it then) swing my 5i and 6i together tee it up and grip and rip

I show up 1 hour early and hit the chipping/putting green for 30 minutes. Then I have a few smokes and possibly a beer or two depending on the time of day to get nice and relaxed. Though time of day has surely slipped me in the past when I'm in an outing at 7 AM and see 2 fresh kegs get tapped...

That's not the case at all.......................

I went from a double digit to 0HC without ever hitting a single practice bucket on the range.   I just play.......(regularly)

To get good...you need to choose between 2 options.

Pick 1:

A........practice a lot

B........play a lot

I chose option B

Ive done it both ways.  Showed up at the course as a single multiple times, and gone right out on the tee, and played some average rounds (even birdied the 1 st hole once)

Then a couple times i showed up as a single and had to wait an hour or more cuz the course was busy... so I hit balls chipped and putted for a long time, and ended up have a couple exceptional rounds.  I thought there might be a correlation...  so i started going early and warming up when possible.

For me, playing a lot is not really an option.  I just dont have the time to play 9,18 holes that often.  i usually get 1 round a week.  2 if im lucky.

(got to put in my time at work, and then the woman complains that Im golfing too much...blah blah blah)

So i guess because option B is out, i have no other choice other then A.  Much easier to hit the range for an hour a few times and try to prepare for my 1 round a week.   I want to play well since i only get 1 a week, so i want to be warmed up before i hit the first tee.  I know that feeling after hitting balls for a while where I feel totally loose and in control of the golf ball.  Trying to achieve that on the course as much as possible.

And i think a good stretch is great for a warm up (i do yoga and stretch out before i play), but its not the same for me as swinging clubs for a while and making sure all the muscles used are loose and ready.

but, to each their own... people should do what works for them and what makes it fun.

well... off to the range:)

I would prefer to show up early, but lately its been park, check-in, go play....

If I have time, I'll hit some balls at the range. I'll alternate nice and easy "loosen up" swings with "serious attempts."  I'll hit the putting green if I have time.

I play after work a lot so no time to warm up, usually just take a few swings and I'm ready to go. I tried hitting balls on a range first, did nothing for me.

My normal allotted time prior to a round is 40 minutes. This gives me time to check in, change shoes/ clothes in locker room, then warm up. I usually putt for about 5 minutes, then stretch and hit 8-12 balls with my 9 iron focusing only on swing plane and loosening up. I then hit 6 or so balls with 9 iron, 5 iron, SW, 3 hybrid or 4 wood. Finally a few drivers and chip for a few minutes.

Driver: Taylor Made RBZ HL
3-Wood:Taylor Made RBZ 16*
Hybrid: Taylor Made RBZ 19* and 22*
4i-PW: Titleist AP 1
Wedges: Vokey 54*, 60* Putter: Cameron Squareback 2 Ball: Pro V1x

It all depends, obviously, on how much time I have before tee-off. If it's a weekend round or a round where I'm not coming from work, about 45 mins early, do yoga stretches, hit about 20-30 balls max (it's just warm-up, trying to find what swing I brought with me to the course), 15 mins on the putting green. That usually uses up the 45 mins.

If, on the other hand, it's an after-work round I do not have the luxury of 45 mins. More like 10 mins. When time is truncated, I don't have time to hit balls so it becomes a matter of prioritization of time, and to me the most important thing is stretching, so that's all I do when time is minimal. If I can, I hit a few putts. If I can't, I'll hit a few practice putts on the first green.

Absotively posilutely. The most effective stretch for me is the one where (I forgot the name of it) you sit on the ground, place you right foot on the ground just outside your left knee with left leg extended, then turn your shoulders clockwise with right hand on the ground behind you and left elbow pressing against right knee for leverage. Then all switch right/left body parts and stretch counterclockwise.

The older I get the more I need to stretch as it takes longer to really feel loose.  If I get to the course with enough time to spare I'll take at least 10-30 minutes for stretching, hit 20+ balls with wedges, mid-irons, and a couple with the driver to evaluate my swing, and then putt, hoping that the practice green speed is at least close to that of those on the course.  I want to make a few in a row before I leave the green to keep me positive before the first tee shot.  I love to practice and spend as much time stretching at the range as I do the course as I don't get the chance to play as often as I do to practice.
