Played 18 with my old college coach yesterday because he was in town. While we were at the range warming up for the round, he noticed my hips angle and shoulder angle were about the same. So he busted out his old bungy cord and looped it around the left belt loop. He told me to take my regular back swing, and as soon as i finished my backswing he tuged on the cord to pull my hip a little bit back while i held my back in the same position. We did this about 15-20 times so that i could get the feeling in my muscles. Man did it make a diffrence. My 5 iron was back to the 190-200 carry range. The only wierd thing is that i don't feel like i'm making a full turn, but the outcome is so much better than b4. I've always been told that i should feel a little tightness in the back to feel a proper coil. Should i keep on the feeling of restricting the hip to turn as much as i did b4 or should i just naturally let it happen. I shot a 84 for the round, had a bunch of scramble shots due to me hitting it over the green due to new distances with the irons.

One of the drills I came across on Leadbetter Interactive this morning for overactive hips is to turn in your left foot 45° at address, maybe this would recreate the same feeling without the use of the bungee so that you don't need a partner to practice with?

Yeah its a good drill to get the feeling of it but who turns out their foot 45 degrees while they play. Its always good to play with another set of eyes to see wha your doing wrong

I'm one of those who opens the left foot from between 30 degrees and 45 degrees as Hardy (the plane truth for golfers) suggests for one plane swingers.

I have been taking lessons and have been working on this same thing with the same results. Even though I have a shorter back swing, I am getting great distance with better accuracy.
